"Convenient older condos near spectacular Mt Baker Highway 542 hikes & good restaurants"

6.0

It's the nearest lodging for spectacular Mt Baker hikes such as Artist Point, 50 minutes drive one way. Although the room lacked air conditioning, it had an effective sealing fan and stayed cool enough all day, below 76 degrees, even when the outside temperature rose to 92 degrees. We vented the room overnight to keep it cool for the next day.

A drumbeat of loud footsteps reverberated through our ceiling from the upstairs condo, especially when a family with an active running toddler stayed 1 night -- so I advise getting a more peaceful upstairs condo instead of one on the first floor. The walls are otherwise relatively well insulated against noisy neighbor voices. If you open the deck screen door, the highway side was very noisy with traffic until 9pm, after which it quieted nicely. I advise getting a 2nd floor condo on the quieter parking lot side. The downstairs pool hall for games (which we didn't use) smelled dankly of water damaged carpet, like moldy wet socks, but luckily the condo living areas smelled fine. The refrigerator was a bit small for our 3-night stay. $215 per night for the basic "#09 - Snowline Lodge" condo seemed overly expensive for this aging ski lodge (at least 40 or 50 years old). Better values are available elsewhere. Booking.com's price via the "Your.Rentals" intermediary company was $218 more expensive than found on the local MtBakerLodging.com for a 3-night stay -- so on Aug 13, I contacted Booking.com to kindly uphold their price matching policy — pending reply.
