Tyger Inn Derby

It was average at best. Like soil sprinkled with glitter.

On arrival I waited over 5 minutes to check in whilst an elderly gentleman ate his food looking at me through the glass office door. He didn’t attempt to appease me or advise a staff member would attend to me asap. Once I was checked in, I felt the clerk was inconvenienced by my arrival. Unwelcoming yet assertive in explaining the do’s and don’ts. The modern decor merely masked the tired old building and the free WiFi was non existent. Thus, causing endless issues with TV connection. Unable to watch TV at all during my 2 day stop over. Beds or room where not freshened or touched. Although site facilities stipulates “daily maid service” . A musty smell was present on arrival. Although by opening the windows did seem to expel any odour quickly. No plug for the bath, drafty windows, no sound proofing to floors or walls. Staff unavailable when needed and had to call the number provided and wait an eternity to be attended to. Overall, overpriced, un accommodating and poor customer care. I rated 5/10 due to the fact. After Premier Inn sold the property in the last few years. I believe it now to be a family run business and I imagine the new owners are doing the best they can to make the dilapidated old building as comfortable as possible. Potentially on a budget which will take time and commitment. If you require a pit stop in a comfy bed without the luxuries. Then this is the place. However, I feel the price was on the high end of the bar. Considering the service. I only booked as a last minute weekend away and due to its location and local attractions. I struggled to find anywhere else at short notice.
