Super 8 by Wyndham Newport News

My family and I traveled from Illinois to SC for my son’s graduation from basic training, we drove from SC to Newport News on November 28 (Thanksgiving Day) we only needed it for one night so I went a little cheaper than I usually do. We unloaded our car got to our rooms they were ok but again it’s for sleeping . We decided to go out for dinner , on our way out we encountered a man running from the police up the stairs my family was coming down . 3 other cop cars pulled up They pulled guns on him , I pushed my granddaughter behind me, we ran to our car realizing we were blocked in by police cars finally they moved one car and we left out of the parking lot . I decided right then we were not staying. We left to find another hotel. When we returned they had him in the cop car . But other questionable people were outside.My husband went and told them we were not staying. Not able to get a refund due to me booking through a 3 rd party . Was very disappointed that Expedia doesn’t physically check these hotels out . This area was very rundown . And I would say dangerous. I was scared with 2 military men and my husband with me. Women should not go there alone.

It wasn't in the best location. They had a heavy metal fence and sliding gate to protect the property. I went to the trouble to do the online check in, and they had me do all of the same check in activities when I got there. The bed frames were all metal and creaked a fair bit. The bathroom door opened inward to a small bathroom and stuck. I can say it was convenient to CNU, was clean, and not too expensive. So maybe just average for what I paid.

needs to be cleaned better and replace the fridge and chair, the drunks or druggies running up and down the stairs and begging for money every time we came out of our room. would be nice to have a coffee pot in room, first time during my years of travel to not have one and no complementary breakfast as it stated had to go to waffle house for coffee,

only thing was it was across the street from my sons place

it had black mold all over the ceiling outside of bathroom. there was no coffee maker, bathroom door did not shut and was filthy, fridgerator was duct tape inside in several places so was the chair so did not trust sitting in it. was not informed of anything for us to have in the morning, saw no place to go to in the morning for a light breakfast at hotel. was a lot of bums and shady people up and down the stairs by our room. some waiting outside to hit up us for money and everyone else that was leaving.
