"The view is stunning, but not quite enough to make up for everything else."

5.0

The location, the view and the presentation of the hotel are fab - but sadly, this hotel is style over substance; the view constantly has to make up for everything else.

We asked for any room but a ground floor room - sadly, got a ground floor room. Instead we were put in a disabled access room as a compromise resolution; but everything here is a compromise - I don’t think I’ve ever heard the phrase “small surcharge” in response to so many things. ‘Free’ gin, but pay for the tonic. Breakfast included, but upgrade for anything more than pastry from a packet. Filter coffee, want anything else? Surcharge. We made the mistake of having dinner here. What should have been a fillet steak was a lump of fat and gristle: inedible. When they cleared our full plates, after no check backs all mean, the manager came over and said, he’s a chef and fillet steak is fatty!? Still unclear on that. The staff seemed rushed off their feet and there’s an air of mania in the dining room, even with an hour and a half to serve dinner, 40 minutes to serve breakfast… Maybe they’re just getting started for the season, but this hotel has a long way to go.

"Loved it and would definitely come back. Would also recommend it."

Lovely location and lovely hotel. Room was nice. The bed was so comfortable. Staff very friendly.

Advertising as breakfast included. But if you want hot food you have to pay a supplement. We were told about this before we arrived though. Hotel was expensive so feel like it could have included hot breakfast. Continental breakfast was nice though.

"Comfortable hotel with wonderful views."

8.0

Continental breakfast was very good with a nice selection of pastries and fruit. Restaurant was very pleasant with a good choice of food.

We were upgraded to a room with a sea view at no extra cost but it was on the ground floor and the outdoor terrace and hotel entrance were right outside our private patio space. Perhaps it would have been better to have been given a choice over which room we preferred as it didn't feel very private. Also, guests should be aware that this hotel is quite remote with a very steep, narrow twisty road to access it from Salcombe. The hotel does offer a shuttle bus service to Salcombe but this has to be pre-booked. There is also a boat service but not for the faint-hearted if the weather is not good.
