Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel

Updated room was big and clean, mattress comfortable, sofa bed not so much- you can feel the springs. Front desk staff polite and helpful, check in was quick. No microwave in the room but one was available in the common area. Spectacular views, golf cart transportation to and from town was quick and easy. We would stay there again

Location, view from the pool

The room didn’t have an ocean view although we booked a room with a view. The whole hotel is worn out, not cleaned well. Service non-existent, not a 4-star hotel, more like 2-star. Some of the staff also rude. Walls are paper thin, we could hear what the people in the next room were discussing about. Not even close worth the price $950 / night.

Location was perfect, view was great, staff was so kind, friendly and helpful! Shuttle back and forth to town was quick and simple, but sometimes we even walked it, it wasn’t too far! Breakfast was amazing! Rooms were great, pool was nice too!

The view is beautiful, but that’s it. LOUD bell goes off every 15 minutes right next to the rooms! There should be a disclaimer. The staff is NOT HELPFUL. Unfortunately, they are the opposite & I talked with other guests who also were having the same experience. Those chairs in the picture by the pool- don’t exists. The online pics are false advertising. The hotel itself is rundown & needs lots of repairs . There are several odd rules and the only time we heard from staff was when they rudely were enforcing them. It’s sad because no one goes out of their way to help you while you are staying in Catalina.

Wonderful stay! The floors are dirty so barefoot beware! Other than that we had a great time.

We had a great stay at Zane Grey Hotel! We stayed in the corner suite with the incredible ocean view overlooking Avalon. The continental breakfast was great. Lots of deer roam the property in the morning and evening. Very cute to see. They provide a shuttle to and from the town square and pick you up from the harbour when you arrive on the island. Nelly and Crystal were very helpful, as was Carl! Look forward to returning one day soon!

The view from our room was fabulous, but we had to pay $1000 a night to get a room with a view and the property has no services. So it’s more like a self service hotel. There is a driver to pickup at the ferry.

The property has no food or drinks available on the property and it’s a 10 -15 minute walk up or down a steep hill to find any food or drinks. Pool looks more like motel pool and need to bring food/drinks you’d like. The new rooms require taking an elevator and then walking up with your suitcases three flights of stairs. It was fine for us, but others may want to take note. There is no assistance, and really no assistance from the front desk.

The most important way that I think my review can be helpful without being redundant to everyone else’s, is to say READ THE REVIEWS AND BELIEVE THEM!!! If you’re like me, you probably are trying really hard not to believe the reviews because the website photos are so beautiful and it looks like such an amazing hotel from those photos. I cannot state this more strongly… There is no such hotel that exists as the one depicted on the Zane Grey website. Not a single photo is representational of this hotel with the exception of the view. The view from our room 301, was absolutely stunning. Probably one of the best views on Catalina Island. You get the morning sunrise over the marina, the evening sunset and the gorgeous night view over the marina. That is the only upside to this hotel. And I’m swallowing hard to get the word “hotel” out of my mouth because it is really a true motel type place. Very old, dated, rundown. Service is nonexistent. People at the front desk are rarely at the front desk. When we checked in, there was a sign at the front desk that said “back in five minutes”, but we waited a full 30 for anyone to show up. There is no food or drink available except for a “Costco closet“ where they can bring you beer or sodas at an exorbitant price or vending machines that they warn you “eat your dollars”. Because you’re high up on a hill and you have to walk all the way into town to get any food or drink this is an important thing to note. Town is about a 15 minute walk each way and the walk back is straight uphill. Although I found it to be great exercise and wasn’t bothered by the walking at all Some people might be upset about the hike up. Everything that the other reviews were saying about the noise is absolutely true. You can hear everybody in the rooms around you. It’s important to note that we stayed in $1000 night newly renovated room to get that view and I don’t believe many of the other rooms come with that view. The renovated room was pretty nice but not even remotely worth $1000 a night. I don’t believe it’s even worth $400 a night. Having said all of that, I was here with my sister and we had an absolutely wonderful few days, relaxing, eating, drinking and exploring the town. And because of all the reviews that we read, we had very low expectations when we got here so that helped. If you decide to stay here, please lower your expectations And accept that it’s going to be noisy from other rooms, the hotel is going to be rundown and feel old and dated, and there will be no amenities, food or drink.
