"Real Japanese Experience "

8.0

If one is looking for a western-style hotel, this is the wrong place. On the other hand, if one is looking for living (mostly) like a Japanese family would, in a real Japanese neighborhood, then you are looking at the right place. This place is 100% Japanese except that it has 2 full-size western beds, which is not common. And, it has a modern Japanese toilet (heated seat, ETC.) which, I'm guessing, is not too common in 'normal' homes due to their expense. The two 'issues' for us were: 1--finding the place. Even a local taxi driver took and dropped us off a similarly named, but incorrect, address. (See the photo of my wife entering the unit.) Fortunately, Keiko-san came and picked us up and took us to the correct destination. 2--there were very few neighborhood options for food. On the 'main-drag' (whatever it's called) across the street from the Doubletree Hotel was 1 miserable Ramen 'restaurant' and, next to it, an 'Indian' establishment which didn't look much better than its neighbor. We did find a little, very Japanese, coffee shop immediately around the only accessible corner. (see 2 photos). Breakfast consisted of very inexpensive but tasty egg sandwiches of various kinds and fruit found at the 'Lawsons' and 7-11s somewhat near the above establishments. One other point. This home was advertised as accommodating as many as 7 people. I would say 'maximum of 4'. Two adults and 2 children. Anyone over 5'10" and 180 lbs will have a tough go of it. This is real Japan.
