All the staff we interacted with from reception, events, housekeeping,bar, restaurant across the whole hotel were polite, efficient and helpful. Julian and team really made the family meal in the Casterbridge room run so smoothly and admire his incredible patience with us all. It was a heatwave and our bedroom didn’t have air con so only minor downside.

Amazing! Friendly, warm greeting on arrival by the lovely staff member at reception; fantastic room, comfortable bed, all amenities, coffee pod in room, quality teas, fabulous soap, handcream, body wash. Fluffy towels. Just wonderful. Free parking was a bonus.

Excellent breakfast. We booked through Booking.com which did not include breakfast. The host mentioned breakfast was included if booked directly with the hotel. Either way, don’t miss breakfast. Our floors creaked with the sound of well worn wood. The bathroom was large with a full bath. Exposed, painted beams in the ceiling. What a wonderful, old English feeling.

Our room faced the main road in Dorchester but the double windows allowed little road noise to enter the room.

We had a great stay apart from the difficulty in sleeping. The room was nice, the food was good and the staff were all friendly and helpful. But the amount of light leaking in to the room overnight was unacceptable. Pleated curtains allowed early morning daylight to pour in to the room. And an ill fitting door was silhouetted through the night from the corridor light outside. It is a great shame when a hotel does so much right but lets itself down in one fundamental respect by a lack of attention to detail.

It was very charming. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was very good.
