"Perfect spot for a Memphian's Staycation or visit to Memphis where you want extraordinary seamless and visit!"

10.0

Truly one of the most special hotels I have ever visited. From the beauty of the design and decor to the AMAZING food (especially breakfast), the Memphian is remarkable. The team downstairs at the Complicated Pilgrim are so kind and you cannot go wrong with any of the items on the breakfast menu- avocado toast, the JAM with the biscuits is insane, the entire Cooper Street breakfast, and endless latte options. Honestly even their coffee is great :) The food upstairs at the Tiger and Peacock is wonderful too (fav is mushroom flatbread), but let's talk about the cocktails - AMAZING options and everyone is delicious! The view from the patio is also unmatched in Memphis in my option. It's so convenient to walk to Lafayette's for live music, desert at 17 Berkshire, a margarita at BABALU, local beer at Bosco's, even a fresh blowout or nail appointment at Gould's... the list is endless and all a few steps away. Have I mentioned I love this hotel??? If you go with children- visit the Art Project next door for art free play, Sweet Noshings for ice cream and endless candy options, and Memphis Pizza Cafe for an easy dinner. There are also lots of theaters nearby and you might be able to catch a quick play!

No electricity this morning, dirty shower walls and trash in the trash bin in the room when I checked in. I expect much better for $550/night. Very disappointing, had been looking forward to checking out this property.

"The Memphian: Square on the Outside; Hip on the Inside"

8.0

I recently spent 4 nights at the Memphian , a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Memphis, TN. I rate this Hotel 4.5 Quick take: There’s a lot to like about this hotel and I highly recommend it with a couple of caveats. The hotel has bold and interesting interior decor, is very clean all the way through, and everything in the room works as it should. The room has all the requisite types of plugs for the modern traveler. The hotel staff, restaurant and bar are all very friendly and offer very good to excellent service. The food and beverages I had were excellent. I will go this hotel again if in the area. If interested in more details about my stay, read on. I’m not familiar with Memphis but was told the hotel is in mid-town in a place named Overton Square. The neighborhood appears to be a kind of hip area with lots of options for dining and nightlife. The shops, restaurants and areas around the hotel seem to be well kept and well lit at night. The hotel is a squarish six story (I think) building that seems rather plain. However, the inside is anything but plain. Large pieces of eye-catching art and colors are interesting and dramatic yet somehow not garish or off-putting. It did take some time for me to get used to the decor. The furnishings in the lobby are equally unique but somehow fit in with the interior decor. After checking in I discovered that the rooms and even the elevator are as interestingly decorated as the lobby area. As a person who stays mostly at Marriott business hotels, this was quite a change in a positive way. The overall service I experienced was very good. The evening I arrived, there was a maintenance problem with my room. Even though no more of my type of room was available, the Front Desk took responsibility for the problem (instead of blaming maintenance) and upgraded rather than downgrading my room. That was impressive and completely turned an initially unhappy experience into a super positive one. Hats off and thanks to Kyla, my initial Front Desk contact and Jessica Pozza the Asst Front Desk Manager who gave me one of the best rooms in the house. Right off the lobby is the bar and restaurant named the Complicated Pilgrim both of which have a lot of windows and face the street. The bar is small but the high ceiling and windows help to create an open feeling. The physical bar itself and the furnishings give the space a kind of fun feeling, which is not how I would typically describe a bar. The adjacent restaurant is also small and has a boutique feel to it. The clever use of floor to ceiling curtains enables the staff to create intimate or open dining spaces. I found the staff at the bar and restaurant to be excellent with a “can do” attitude for customer requests. The Tiger and Peacock is the roof top restaurant and bar that has both indoor and outdoor areas. The furnishings and decor are interesting and seem meant to create comfort and conversations. I did not dine there so cannot comment on the food or drinks. Back in the Lobby, just outside the bar entrance are three walls of bookshelves filled with books. Tucked into a corner of the bookshelf area is the “business center” which is just a computer and a printer (both of which worked well) as part of a reading area. It is a nice area for guests to hang out, but the “business center” should be in a place with less public traffic in my opinion. My one bedroom suite was clean, spacious, and well appointed with a large desk, living room furniture, big screen TV, dining table, coffee maker, mini-fridge, and refillable water bottles. The bathroom is spacious and had a large soaking tub, walk in shower, spacious, well lit vanity/sink area, and an enclosed area for the toilet. The bedroom is a little tight with functional night tables, wardrobe, and suitcase bench. One of the best things about the room is the AC. It is quiet, has an easy to use thermostat, and it works well. The room and bathroom is clean, clean, clean. The main hotel parking is gated and immediately behind the hotel. If that lot is full, there is a parking structure adjacent to the hotel lot. Recommendation: Very High. Rating 4.5

"Great hotel with elevated eating and drinking experiences."

10.0

Traveled to Memphis for business and decided to stay at the Memphian, being a Bonvoy member. I was warmly greeted and promptly checked in upon arrival. My room was clean and quite spacious. The bed was comfortable, the view was nice, and the room served as a great space to work on my laptop when I wasn’t out and about. The hotel is in close proximity to Overton Square and surrounded by many nice bars and restaurants in walking distance. I quite enjoyed exploring the area when I wasn’t working. The crown jewel of this property in my opinion was the rooftop cocktail bar Tiger & Peacock. The drinks are well balanced and expertly crafted. The space itself is well decorated with cool taxidermy and even had a Christmas tree for the holidays. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Memphis area.

"Not worth the price."

4.0

We were in town for a college reunion and asked for a room adjoining some friends. We ended up in a handicap accessible room, even though we were not handicapped. Consequently, the bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower which got the adjacent floor wet when we used it. We had to search for extra towels and there was no where to hang anything except in the closet. Surprisingly, the closet was NOT handicap accessible. In fact, it was a struggle to get the hangers off the rod to hang up anything. We had booked the rooms for two nights and around 8:00 am the second morning, a housekeeper came to the door to ask if we needed anything. Thinking she meant extra towels, we told her no. Later that day, we realized she meant did we need anything at all, even emptying the garbage cans. So, no beds made, no garbage cans emptied, no replenishing of the coffee pods. On the second night, we planned to join our friends on the rooftop lounge. The person guarding the one elevator that went to the rooftop asked if we had reservations. When we said no, he got very snippy and started communicating with someone on the rooftop via walkie talkie. We explained that we had friends with a table large enough to accommodate us, but that didn't seem to change his mind. Eventually, after a rude exchange between him and my friend, we were allowed on the elevator. The rooftop did not appear to be crowded, but I am not trained as a fire marshall. We had to use our room cards to get into the parking lot, which I understood. However, I did not understand why we needed the room card to get OUT of the parking lot. We returned to the hotel the second night, there was no parking space available, so we had to park in a traffic lane. In January, I stayed at a very comfortable hotel in NYC for a third the cost. Overall, I would not say this hotel was worth the price.
