The Grand Palace Hotel

The girl at the reception was not honest with me regarding the exchange rate and my change after I paid my rooms. I could see the exchange rate from dollar to birr displayed somewhere but I was not given the exact amount (a difference of almost 10$) my change after I paid in dollars. That was not all. After I kept quiet for the first one, then I realised when I got into my room, the amount they gave me in birr as my change (12k birr equivalent to 80$ according to them which was actually less that 70$) was actually not complete. They gave me 10k instead of 12k. The next day when I saw her, I deliberately asked how she gave me the day before, she said 12k. Then I told her that it was actually 10k, she said yeah I didn't actually have enough so I gave you 10k which she admitted. She still didn't give me that balance at the moment and asked me to wait until the next day after my check out, knowing that she wont be around. After my check out I had to remind her colleague who witnessed our discussion the day before, to please give me my remaining balance. He finally gave me but after that I realised that it still wasn't complete. The money was not much (around 15$) but I don't like dishonesty.

The location was great and the staff were wonderful.

I liked your staff attitude: one I remember vividly was Mr Ayele Wallel.... (sorry I don't remember his full name). From my first day until I left, all the times we met, his cheerfulness created a really friendly environment for me... given that I am a rather shy person. Also, the one young man (whose name i unfortunately forgot to ask), who attended to us during complementary breakfast sessions; He was an excellent person on that job, especially towards strangers. He introduced me to "marketo coffee". He is a very young man, dark in complexion, with a good smile. These persons left a good impression on my concerning your facility and I can think of no other place to stay next time I am in Addis. Your entire staff were amazing, and I am sure all receptionist and breakfast attendants will remember Joseph in 616... 😃

Lovely place and pleasant experience

I had an exceptional stay at this hotel with truly kind and attentive staff, from security to reception, breakfast, and housekeeping. Everyone was extremely helpful. Regarding the room, it was spacious, clean with a beautiful view of them at Addis. I highly recommend this charming hotel and thank you again to all the staff ! Bettina

In all, I've had the best experiences so far hospitality. The staff in your facility were the most amazing... especially the ones attending the breakfast table. Their services were topnotch. The location and cleanliness of your hotel and rooms are great. Please give a big kudos to your cleaners. They deserve great commendation. I can't itemise my experiences, but trust me that I did not get any negative vibe while at the Grand Palace hotels. Good job.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel in a local neighborhood. It is not for people that want the Hyatt, Hilton, or Sheraton - it is people who want to feel the culture. We happened to be staying there on my husband’s birthday and they upgraded us to a suite and had a dessert with candle at breakfast. The staff is superb - kind, nice and very accommodating. The included transfer to the airport was a nice perk. Since the hotel is more local you need to expect that level of comfort. The AC was not working - I am not 100% sure they have any? While it was cooler outside due to the elevation - our room was stuffy. They gave us a fan to use to draw in air from the outside - it rattled so loud we could not use it at night. We had to ask for towels one night since they forgot - the carpet had several spots - but all of this did not diminish our wonderful stay. We would go back! Thank-you!
