The best vacation we had!
Beautiful. I wish I had more time there.
Lovely resort with good food
A hidden gem of a place, surrounded by nature. Love to go again someday.
A unique experience! Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Easy access to the falls, and we spent an entire day exploring the surrounding canyon. The accommodations felt spacious and charming. We really enjoyed the rooftop space, although it would be lovely to have furniture up there. We ended up just bringing up a couple of the dining room chairs to sit on. We were a little disappointed to find out that in the evening, around 7pm (and all throughout the night), a generator runs at the main house. I was expecting a remote, quiet evening of nature sounds, but instead ended up playing music in the evening to help drown out the sound of the generator. Also, was so grateful to have brought ear plugs along, as the handful of roosters on the property start up around 3am and continue until around 7am. My husband is not a light sleeper like me, but even he was using the earplugs to help sleep. It's also interesting that you have a nicely equipped kitchen, but no way to keep things cool. We had a small lunchbox of refrigerator items, which we kept in the fridge located in the main building's kitchen, but it was pretty inconvenient, as the door to that kitchen is often locked, so we couldn't just access our things when needed, and I didn't necessarily want to bother the hosts every time I wanted something in the fridge. Overall, was a nice place to stay, with some minor inconveniences.
Simple accommodations right next to the waterfall. It was great staying right there and being able to thoroughly explore the area. We also didn’t expect the food on site to be so incredible. We went for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and everything was absolutely incredible. Each unit feels very private and you get a little rooftop to watch the sunset. We loved our experience here.
Mercedes and family were welcoming and knowledgeable hosts. You must eat here, it was the best meal of our trip!
Staying at the Sol De Mayo eco-resort was an incredible experience for us. The property is very much off-road, but we completed the journey in a rental sedan in about 30 mins from Highway 1. I would not recommend the drive at night or near dusk. Google Maps gives pretty good turn-by-turn directions and there are lots of signs for the last few km. When entering the property you check-in and are shown to your villa. Each villa has its own parking space so you don't have to use the main lot that others park in when visiting the waterfall. The villa is spacious; it has a bathroom and bedroom in one building and a kitchen (with stove and sink) and balcony in a second building. Between the two buildings is a dedicated covered table and fire pit. The property has a restaurant that is open for lunch each day and open for breakfast/dinner upon request. Just let them know in advance when you'd like to eat. And make sure you get the delicious chile de arbol salsa. The waterfall is gorgeous and a very short walk from the villas. By staying at the villa, you get free access to the waterfall for the extent of you stay. Note that you are very much within nature on this property. There are animals roaming everywhere from beautiful peacocks and a few dogs/chickens/goats/turtles to some insects and at least one snake! The snake gave us a scare but I don't know if it's actually dangerous. I would highly recommend Sol De Mayo for other adventurous travelers.
It started with detailed filling out and signing of 5 pieces of paper, affixing orange wrist bands, and being told NOT to take them off. There is no 'office', it's a guy with a clipboard, who didn't know our cabin numbers, but told to follow another guy...he pointed to a spot behind a brick building and disappeared. We finally figured out the rooms and got our keys at dinner. We were hoping to read about the preserve, but there is nothing, no history, nada. Nothing. There is spotty wi fi in the cute restaurant, and the whole place seems to operate on it's own time. The pizza was excellent, and they had burrata! they also closed at 6, no time on the menus. Not a soul to be seen when the power went out at 7:15pm, candles provided in the bathrooms, but no matches. No one around for coffee at 7am, and still no electricity. There is NOT a kitchen, and you aren't allowed to bring in outside food or booze, yet there are eating and cooking utensils. No frige. One of the rooms had no ceiling fan! The bed linens were delightful! The waterfall was only a disappointment because we didn't realize what a rigorous hike it it to actually get all the way down-the sign says 10 min, but that's to the lookout. Interesting visit, and we'll have to google the preserve!
Really unique and cool place to stay. Definitely off the beaten path and quiet but understand that there’s about 10 km of rough dirt road involved in getting here which was doable in an economy car but was pushing it. Accommodations are great including 2 brick buildings- a bedroom/bathroom in one and kitchen/dining in other with rooftop terrace. Star gazing from rooftop was memorable. Nearby waterfall and fresh water pool was also beautiful and swimable. No cell service, but that’s ok if you want to “get away from it all”. Delicious meals can be ordered or bring and cook your own. It’s a ranch so there are goats, chickens and friendly dogs on the property. Owners were friendly and accommodating.
