"Lovely setting/disappointing food"

8.0

The setting is lovely. We had a great time, with one exception. The restaurant was subpar compared to what it used to be. The “Catch of the Day” was straight out of a Costco or Sam’s bag and was flavorless and tough. The pasta was essentially right out of a Ragu container with some decorative sprinklings on top. The plantains were straight out of a Goya bag. What a disappointment the food was, but otherwise a nice experience.

It was nice and quiet but their website is outdated and they need to be transparent, they should make guests aware there no a/c. My husband sufferers from allergies and with no a/c it made it worse

"A refuge in the tropical forest"

8.0

This is a nice place. Very clean, very peaceful, very simple. Go to rest in the midst of a verdant forest. Two nights was perfect for us and justified the long, winding drive from San Juan. Overall, the food is very good and very inexpensive. The menu is limited and gets repetitious, but, hey, we’re in the middle of a forest pretty far from civilization. We think the kitchen does amazing work. How delightful it was to sit under cover on the veranda during a warm rainstorm just reading our books and feeling brilliant for escaping the frigid temperatures at home.

This place is a lovely tranquil escape in the mountains. I don’t think public transportations would get you there. To us was essential to get a car there and driving experience on curvy, narrow roads helps. Good news is that the paved roads are in great condition. The hotel has a cozy, luxury-glamping (with an addition to your own bathroom). Our room was simple and clean. Bathroom was clean and with great water pressure, though the shower space itself was tight. No fridge in the room and you’ll be at mercy of the hotel’s restaurant for food, if you don’t want to drive around 30 minutes to Utuado.good thing is the hotel’s complimentary coffee, tea, and water that were always available in the lobby. The room walls are very thin and you could even hear conversations of the next door. Staff stared chatting in the laundry bellow our room pretty early and woke us up. Breakfast some days are self-serve and some are a la cart. We had one day a a la cart and it was okay. We also had diner one day which was good. Their food is vegetarian and vegan and dinner required reservations the day we were there. We loved going to Utuado and experience the city’s local food. The highlight? The porch hammock and the magical nighttime sounds of coquí frogs and crickets—so relaxing! No bugs inside, but some small droppings in the morning (expected in nature). The well-kept pool looked inviting, though we didn’t use it. Overall, a peaceful stay—I’d definitely return for the serenity!

"A stunning way to unwind"

10.0

This is a beautiful place to get away from it all. From the well-manucured and wonderfully landscaped grounds, to the comfy rooms, to the pool, every inch is surrounded by nature. The staff was quite friendly. Breakfast (a special holiday weekend buffet) was outstanding. (Dinner was plainer and a tad small.) Well worth the time to get there!

"10/10 beautiful clean accommodations, 2/10 restaurant missed the mark"

6.0

Definitely need a rental car to get to this beautiful retreat in the mountains. I think it’s a yoga retreat, they’re supposed to offer free yoga daily but they did not have that available when we went. Not handicap accessible, large steep hills and high steps, but well planned with motion sensored lights. Each room has private deck with hammock which is nice, but actually there were more guests than I anticipated (was expecting more quiet/sounds of nature) and quarters were close so you could hear sounds travel sharply making it feel like people talking down the path were right next to you. Lots of international guests, lovely to hear different languages/accents spoken. Rooms/bed were comfortable, screened windows, soap/shampoo/conditioner provided, robes and pool towels provided. Small store with essentials in the main house. Too cold to use the pool on our trip in February and colder than expected overnight, almost asked for an extra blanket but instead I just wore more layers to sleep. Rain is likely so prepare with long sleeves/sweatshirt, a rain jacket and shoes/sandals that easily wash off mud, especially if you go hiking in the area. We didn’t do the walking paths on site, they sounded short/easy and we’re more adventure driven. Instead we did an AirBnB experience to Tanamá River ~1 hour of slow driving to get there. Roads are extremely hilly and curvy so take caution. This is the kind of place you’re not frequently leaving to visit other local places once you arrive…it IS the place. That said, you probably want to bring books, music, games etc to fill your time while you relax. It also means their plant based restaurant is the most convenient option and you’ll be having most/all meals there. They charge regular a la carte but seems like an all inclusive option could be useful. Major downside for me with a nut allergy is that almost every menu item for every meal had nuts in it. The nut-free solution offered: the salad with a nut vinaigrette was offered dry because they did not have any other dressing on site…to me this was not an exciting or satisfactory alternative. Ended up leaving early without breakfast because there wasn’t enough nut free food for me. I don’t have a problem with the vegetarian options but after a few meals over a couple consecutive days, i probably would want meat. Overall accommodations were nice but with the yoga canceled, the weather too cold for the pool and the restaurant problem, i definitely felt I overpaid for my stay.

"Great place to stay, beautiful location"

8.0

I love this resort. Beautiful location, good food, comfortable rooms, very peaceful. The only things that prevented me giving 5 stars is that in the 4 days we stayed the pool was closed one day, and the yoga class canceled another.
