Great location, very friendly staff and clean as a whistle. Liked the kitchen area in the morning, looking out to sea.

The location was perfect. Opposite the sea front but away from the noise of the pier. Super friendly and helpful staff. My room was modern, clean with sea view. Great storage, a large TV & refreshment facilties.

the staff are very lovely, so helpful, the shower and toilets work well and my room was kept exceptionally clean. It was good value for money. There are restaurants near by and the theatres, beach and art gallery are within walking distance.

The location of the hotel was fantastic, just in front of the beach / sea. I loved the mattress, as it was firm.

To be perfectly honest, The Halcyon should be advertised as 'Bed & Breakfast', as opposite to a hotel: the only common area was 4 chairs placed at the front of the property, with no shadow/roof to protect from sun or rain, and the only meal service available was the breakfast. Your experience at this Hotel varies based on how lucky you were with the rooms assigned to you; we were a big group and 4 rooms were booked, so I was able to check all of them: the quadruple room was very good (amazing views, a lot of space, a very nice bathroom), the triple room was good (a small fridge, some issues with the chest of drawers, TV loosing signal constantly), the single room had a bath instead of a shower, with no curtains or screen to prevent the bathroom becoming a swimming pool when using it, and the double room, where I stayed, deserves a special mention: there were 4 big windows and only 1 could be opened (the one in the toilet area); when I talked to the staff about it, they suggested to use the fan in the room, but that didn't resolve my issue as I like some clean fresh air coming into the room when we wake up (I don't understand how the room can be properly clean between bookings if you can't open the windows!) Additionally, from the 2 big windows in the bedroom area, only 1 of them had curtains for the sunlight, hence it was quite difficult for me to sleep in the early hours in the morning with so much light coming into the bedroom. Finally, we didn't have any wardrobe, just a chest of drawers and a coat stand, and the space for the shower cabin and the sink was extremely small and narrow. Breakfast was OK for the cost we paid.
