Ludus Magnus

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Ludus Magnus for two nights, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the estate. Surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and the majestic Franschhoek mountains, the setting is like something out of a dream. It’s peaceful, private, and feels like your own little piece of paradise. The accommodation was flawless—elegant, spacious, and impeccably clean. Every detail, from the decor to the amenities, was thoughtfully curated to create a sense of comfort and luxury. Waking up to those views each morning was something I’ll never forget. What truly made my stay exceptional was the staff. Warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever being intrusive, they went out of their way to make me feel at home. Every interaction was genuine, and their local knowledge and recommendations added so much value to my time in Franschhoek. Ludus Magnus is a true gem—an eco-conscious sanctuary where luxury and nature blend seamlessly. I only wish I could have stayed longer. I will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a serene, top-tier escape in the heart of wine country.

Good food, didn't find sitting at a large table with other guests as good as if we had our own table.

Ground floor unit doesn't have a mountain view - contrary to all the photos and messaging. Room was fine, but very different to upstairs. And it was incredibly noisy at night - the room is next to the office and between that door and the interleading door, kept on being slammed by staff. Manager did apologise for it, and we had to request quietness. No service out side at pool area during the day - 3 staff upstairs in kitchen, had to ask a staff member for a drink and she never returned and eventually had to get out of pool and walk to upstairs, as did other guests. Nice location, nice property, some rooms not worth the cost, staff were nice and tried hard but felt like there was a lack of oversight, service not nearly as good, slick or professional as some competitors in the area, and felt a bit over priced compared to others in area

Wow wow wow. This property is just incredible. We have no words for how beautiful the house and surroundings are. So much so, we’re booking this venue for our wedding from the UK. The staff are incredibly friendly and will make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The food is utterly sublime and very reasonably priced. We would 100% recommend this property! You MUST stay there if considering a vacation in the winelands!

Exceptional

I had the pleasure of celebrating my graduation at Ludus Magnus, and it was an experience beyond my wildest dreams! Chef Goodwin, the head chef, was on point, and the other chefs were just as amazing. Every dish was a culinary masterpiece. 🌟 Lydia and Erron hosted us so well; their kind-hearted and amazing nature made the celebration feel incredibly special. Ilaria, with her meticulous attention to detail and methodical approach, was an absolute pleasure to witness. What was supposed to be an average grad party turned into the celebration of the year thanks to their efforts. I am beyond grateful and truly wish for them to continue growing and excelling, even though they are already exceptional. Five stars are too little for the experience I had – it was a 10 million star 🌟 experience! Thank you, Ludus Magnus, for making my graduation unforgettable.

It is a pristine property with multiple amenities. The views are amazing and the staff are exemplary.

They don’t have baths.
