California Dreams Hostel - Ocean Beach

Friendly and helpful staff. Clean room and nice common areas. I was comfortable in a mixed gender room as a solo female traveler.

They staff was nice and communicative and we were able to check in very late. The community areas and kitchen were nice

We had a private room- I be double bed- it was more like a futon. The bed was lumpy and maybe missing planks and the pillows were very old and lumpy. The sheets were also very old with one very old/well used and washed scratchy blanket… fresh sheets and blanket would have gone a long way- it was the most expensive hostel I’ve ever stayed at and the basic provisions felt strait from the thrift shop

The description of private on site parking only applies if you book the very expensive private room. No privacy curtains and every surface was sticky from being touched and not washed. Picture makes the pool look way bigger and cleaner than it is.

The hostel was very clean throughout our stay, and the overall atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming. The interior is nicely decorated, creating a cozy and comfortable environment. The common areas are inviting, and the hostel has a charming design that makes it feel more relaxing than a typical budget accommodation.

Most of the staff were friendly, but not always very helpful. We asked about bike rentals and were told that none were available. We also asked about public transportation to another rental location, but the staff could not provide any information. Later that evening, after returning with bikes rented elsewhere, we discovered that the hotel actually had bikes available in the backyard. This could have saved us a 30-minute walk. We also experienced an issue with our room key not working. One staff member seemed more interested in watching TV than assisting us with the key and with the luggage that had been stored during the day. The location is quite inconvenient without a car or bike, and the bus only runs every 30 minutes. Breakfast was very limited and consisted mainly of fruit, bread, and cream cheese.
