LUX* Marijani Zanzibar

Food was nice, service was wonderful. Really nice facilities in terms of location and beach front. Beach was a serious highlight with limited hawking from locals. Kept respectful distance but could interact with them if wanted to venture closer to the sea. Felt entirely optional and really quite safe.

Hotel was good, quite the drive from airport / stone town, but no fault of the hotel.Won't affect travelers who stay in hotel throughout.

Chefs and their teams go out of their way to make sure that you are satisfied with what's available to eat. Its a small, quiet and peaceful hotel. There is not a lot of commercial activities in the area, as compared to resorts on the west coast. So, you don't get the noise and the disturbance ad you would get if you were at a bigger resort. I liked that the front office staff filled out all our emigration departure forms for us. Staff are very quick and efficient. The resort is on the east coast, so you see stunning sun rises. Evening entertainment was fun with the live bands.

The power goes off at random times. This causes the water to cut off in the rooms. When the power does come back, it causes a problem in the bathrooms. The water then flows too fast, causing the toilet to overflow. You have to call the maintenance guy to come and sort it out. This hotel has become a LUX hotel recently. They are actively working hard to get up to full LUX standards.

Resort is located on a beautiful beach with lovely amenities. The chefs and support staff were fantastic, very friendly and cared for us. There were variety of vegan and vegetarian options on offer. Located about 40 minutes by boat from Mnemba Island which is a must to see the dolphins and for snorkeling.

There is a spa on the property but although price options were on par with other resorts on the island, the menu was limited and no affordable options for couples.

Liked all but the cost.

Un très bel hôtel : pensé avec soin, du service attentif au décor des chambres élégant. On s’y sent instantanément apaisés. Les espaces sont propres, les chambres et les extérieurs sont superbes et le personnel aux petits soins. La plage est sublime et les extérieurs entretenus avec une grande qualité. Nous avons également trouvé la nourriture de très bonne qualité avec un choix varié et un service impeccable

Nous pensons que l’espace piscine est à rénover. L’hôtel est de très bonne qualité mais la partie piscine n’est pas au standing du groupe. Beaucoup de carreaux manquants dans la piscine, des finitions approximatives. Les transats sont vieillissants, certains cassés, les coussins et quelques parasols sont déchirés. Également le tarif des activités annexes nous paraît excessif, nous avons fait plusieurs hôtels 5* durant notre séjour à Zanzibar et c’est au Lux que la carte des massages et des excursions était la plus chère.

The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and incredibly attentive. The buffet food was excellent and varied, and we could also order à la carte, with live background music or a show. The beach is wonderful — white, fine sand and very wide. At low tide you can walk several meters, as the water recedes and creates large sandbanks and small natural pools. Even when the tide comes in, you can still swim for several meters while keeping your feet on the ground. The water is crystal clear and extremely warm — sometimes we had to go to the pool just to cool down. The cleanliness was impeccable, both in the rooms and in the outdoor areas. The décor is very beautiful, and the gardens are well maintained. The pool has a good size, very pleasant water, and excellent service. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would return without any hesitation.

The only downsides were a few small power outages, which were resolved quickly, and the fact that there is no medical or nursing service on-site. I had to call a doctor — he arrived quickly, but I had to pay.
