The Slate Hotel Denver Downtown, Tapestry by Hilton

The place is good looking and appears to be a hotel converted from a school or business. This gives it a quirky, original feel and layout. The bar and restaurant great. And the staff are friendly. Unexpectedly, the valet parking was the best I've experienced anywhere. Superfast and professional. That team gets very high marks.

Small quibble: On the downside, the tickets for the breakfast ad-on are exceptionally limited and at check-in, the clerk didn't explain that the "included breakfast" had only three narrow options. Better would be to have a price-limit on the coupons that can either be applied to the existing inexpensive "yogurt and fruit" option OR $X off a different breakfast. The limits should be explained when including the tickets in the pockets with the room keys.

Very quiet place with comfy beds and good amenities. They have really nice treadmills in the fitness room. Staff is also very friendly and has always let me do early and late check out no problems.

The bar/restaurant overpriced

I stayed at the Slate during a large conference that was at the convention center across the street. The desk staff were helpful---unfortunately, the hotel is difficult to find at night because the entrance is on an alley off of 13th Street and there is no large sign providing direction. I had a standard room with a king bed, which was fine for one person but would have been too small for a couple. The bathroom also was small. The amenities were fine--plenty of plugs, plenty of hot water, comfortable bedding, a refrigerator and coffee service with decent coffee (but no microwave). A couple complaints--the shade wouldn't open (I wasn't in the room during the day so not a big deal) and the clock could not be changed from daylight savings time. The restaurant was fine and coffee was available before it opened in the am.
