Staff charged us for “damages” all because the towel and bed sheet was dirty after 4 days of not having our room cleaned. Stated that because they were “too dirty” they have to charge us for “damages” even though they admitted to us nothing was damaged and only dirty.

Location bad, far from anything. At check-in we were asked to leave THB 1,000 as deposition, which was a bit strange. Normally a swipe of credit card will do. But we toed the line, were given a receipt. On day two we had our face towels replaced by house-keeping, small flannel towels about 20 x 20 cm. One of them was stained from what looked like red wine but washed and cleaned and we used it. Left on floor in room for replacement day 3. When getting back day 3, the stained towel was left on the floor, the other one replaced. My wife caught the house keeping woman in the corridor and asked to have it replaced. The answer was no, because we had ruined it. When trying to explain that was not the case she was just ignored. Later in the day my wife picked up a face towel from a unmanned cart in the corridor. She put it in a drawer in our room with the ambition of replacing the stained one with an unstained towel. Day 4 upon return from the Old Town, the stained one was still in our room and the new one, which my wife had put in a drawer was gone... I told my wife they have probably booked it against our room. And yes, surely, THB 200 for a face towel had been booked against the room. We went down to reception to explain the situation, handed the stained towel in and disputed the claim, which took about 20 mins to explain, got a receipt. Day 5, departure day, towel removed from bill..... I am just at lost to why this was such a big thing for the hotel. It seems like washing might have missed the stains on the towel and sent it out in circulation again and the house-keeper thought it was her responsibility to ensure that we would pay for something we had not 'destroyed'. Not happy having our integrity questioned over a THB 10 (charge at THB 200) face towel and the fact that house-keeping rummaged through drawers were we had our personal item/belongings.....
