"It all met my expectations and a bit more."

7.0

The room we had was nice. The location was pretty good too. Breakfast was exceptionally good. The staff were wonderful and friendly, too!

Parking could have been a problem if the road had been full. Our friends' room wasn't quite as nice as ours a few snags...just needed finishing off to the same standard.

"One night stay with dogs."

10.0

This was a one night stay on our way to Edinburgh with our dogs. It was exactly what we needed a comfortable, clean and well equipped room right next to a lovely pub that is also dog friendly. Sonia and the team couldn't do enough for us, fetching water for our dogs after a long journey. Asking if we had everything we needed. We had a good meal that night and a lovely breakfast the following morning. Such a friendly place, we will definitely be back!

"Good"

5.0

The property was conveniently situated in a lovely part of Durham. The city centre was a short drive away, as was Hexham. We loved that the property literally looked like old converted stables, especially with the double doors. The property was equipped well with kettle, coffee/tea, milk, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, TV and even a fridge! The hosts were very friendly and welcoming.

The bed was very uncomfortable and appeared to have a large dip in one side. We didn’t get much sleep and not much could be done about it. The bed was in two sections and one section had the dip in it. The property was clean, but a smell of damp permeated the room. We even went and bought a couple of diffusers to try and take the damp smell away. We were out every day, all day, for our duration, but always felt a little disappointed to be going back to sleep with the uncomfortable bed and the smell. It wasn’t the Ritz, but with a bit more of a make over, the damp smell addressing and the bed replacing, it would have been much more of a pleasant stay.

"Lovely stay shame only for 1 night "

10.0

Stayed for 1 night in the stables as a single female. The accommodation is an add on to the pub Royal Oak next door. The room was clean and a good size, what was really impressive was the facilities- a microwave with plates/cutlery, toaster, washing up equipment, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and a fridge. There was a child’s play area across the road. Horses in the next field lovely area. Went to the pub for tea. Staff gave a warm welcoming, food was lovely and very reasonably priced. I had booked a room only but given the lovely evening meal decided I would have breakfast before checking out, again a lovely breakfast with a good selection of options. Would happily stay again if I’m in the area.

"Lovely facilities but problems with damp"

6.0

Staff were lovely and the rooms are very well kitted out! Loved that crockery and cutlery were provided and the washing up stuff provided was great. Shower was good, location was good. Breakfast was lovely and at a very good price.

Would have been very high rated and a return visit for us if it wasn't for the damp in the room. Carpet was soaking wet in places around the bed and we couldn't tell why. Bad enough that it soaked through our socks when stepping through. Because of it the room also smelled strongly of damp despite the window being open throughout our stay. We reported it to the staff after the first night and they did go in the room while we were out for the day (bins were changed) but carpet was still soaking wet when we went back that night so nothing was done. By the end of our stay we both started to feel a bit chesty. Disappointing really as it was a very nice stay otherwise.

"Exceptional"

10.0

Clean and tidy with plates, cutlery, microwave, toaster, iron and ironing board and hairdryer and kettle with tea and coffee and bottled water. Ensuite with basic toiletries supplied to. The bed was comfortable and the room was large enough for us and two large dogs. Bedside drawers and a coat rack with space for shoes and other storage. The staff were very friendly and so helpful and welcomed us and our dogs. We ate at the pub three times during a four nights stay and the food was delicious every time we ate. The food was affordable and we were impressed with the variety and choice. Locals also very welcoming and chatty. Good selection of beers and wines. Lovely dog walk across the road and we travelled to Durham, Whitburn and Seaham with the pub ideally placed.

Leaving :)
