"Very nice, but could be better with a little more forethought."

8.0

Great location, lovely little house. Bit of a shame that the main living room and back garden weren't accessible, but it was very well suited to our needs. The facilities are good - cooker, dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV with access to Netflix and a PS4 attached, and heated towel rails. There is an en-suite bathroom with powerful shower in the master bedroom, and the house has its own marked parking bay outside. The beds were comfortable (maybe change the mattresses on the bunk beds though?), and it was clean and modern. There are several Lego and Harry Potter-themed items in the house, which makes it ideal for a young family visiting Legoland, and the surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, and within walking distance of the local ASDA superstore.

Overall, I was very happy but the communication prior to our arrival could have been a LOT better. The security information we received was incomplete, and we had trouble getting into the house. It was handled very well by the agency but it was a good couple of hours before we were able to actually able to gain access, which is a pretty serious oversight when your renters are exhausted international travellers arriving on Christmas Eve. A printed sheet of instructions for the various facilities would also have been a good idea, but there was nothing. Some of the paint had worn off the controls on the cooker, for example, and so we had to guess at some of the functions. We didn't bother with the dishwasher for this reason. The remote for the tv was nowhere to be seen, and turned out to be hidden inside a toy car on top of a cabinet, and we did not know how to turn the towels rails on. All of our questions were expertly answered, mostly by email, but I feel all the extra contact really shouldn't have been necessary. I am listing all these things, not to complain, but in the hope that they will take it on board and improve things for future guests. Lastly, (and quite bizarrely), there was a stale smell when we arrived. We traced it to the freezer and found the deep trays full of stagnant water. It took quite an effort of strength and balance to carry them over to the sink, and we had to wash them thoroughly before returning them to the freezer. Perhaps this was some sort of practical joke that the previous renters decided to play before leaving, but it didn't exactly make me feel benevolent towards our hosts.
