Vira Otel Suites

With road construction on the peninsula, getting to old-town Sinop was confusing, but we made it and got a referral from a local shopkeeper to go to Vira Otel. We enjoyed our 2 night stay in a nice, good sized sea-side room overlooking the "pool". From our room, it appeared to be a normal swimming pool with many chaises on the sides, but it really is a small lagoon they have created. Very interesting! We were there about a week before the summer season really begins so they were still putting on the finishing touches to the pool area. Our dinner in the hotel restaurant was good; the included breakfast buffet was pretty standard. A band entertained later in the evening. The hotel is only about 2 years old and already had a bit of mildew in the tub, evidence of the humid climate by the Black Sea, but they should take better care of that. It's amazing how everyone knows everyone in Turkey, even in large towns and cities. First we inquired at the desk about an old friend of our father's. One of the employees knew someone by the same last name who turned out to be the nephew. We were able to connect with the gentleman. We also inquired about taking a tour and they referred us to a wonderful young man, Volkan Guney, who along with his wife, Didem, recently established Fiyord Tour in Sinop. Volkan took us on a delightful private, informative all-day tour of the historical sites around Sinop.
