ROOST Cleveland

We love Roost apartment hotels. The one in Tampa was amazing and that’s why we booked with them in Cleveland. Cleveland location was amazing as well! Clean, great location, friendly staff, comfy beds, and big space apartment. Perfect for families.

There are 2 building entrances (Euclid Ave, Prospect Ave), depending upon which direction you're heading, which was great for us since it was snowing with strong wind gusts while we were there. Our unit was on the second floor facing the Public Square which provided a great holiday backdrop for us with Christmas lights and music playing at night. Bedrooms don't face those windows so you can still get a good sleep. I liked the firm mattress, but my daughter did not care for it. Easy walk to great food options, public transportation, and sporting events. Use Euclid Ave to get to Tower City for RTA stop.

I’ll say this, the space itself was nice. The rooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable. But the first sign that something was off was when my wife noticed that the sheet and blankets on one of the beds didn’t reach all the way from one side to the other. We discovered that was because one of the sheets had a two-foot tear in it that housekeeping had tried to hide by tucking it way in under the mattress. How they thought this would go unnoticed, hard to fathom. But this is Roost in a nutshell. On the surface, luxurious. But below the surface is a weird miserly stinginess and hostile indifference to service. Which leads me to the Coffee Situation. From reading one of the few negative reviews I could find about Roost, I knew in advance that there was some confusion about coffee at the hotel. I knew to expect a supply of beans in the kitchen and understood there’d be free coffee available in the 5th floor public space. Problem one: what I didn’t know, and which the hotel explains nowhere, is that the small handful of beans they give you to start is all you’re going to get, no matter how long you stay. There’s no note in the kitchen telling you this. There’s no mention anywhere in the info sheet you get at check-in. It’s all a Great Big Mystery. They allot you enough beans for 2 complimentary cups, a bizarre number, given that the place we rented had 2 bedrooms with king beds. It pretty much goes without saying that there were more than two of us staying there. As for the Top Secret coffee station on the 5th floor, which I knew about only because of the negative review, it was out of cups for the whole two days of our stay. Yes, I reported this in person to someone on our first morning. No cups ever appeared. When it became clear that our paltry bean supply wouldn’t be refilled and there would never be cups on the 5th floor, I called down the front desk. Three times I called. Once on our first night. Twice the next morning. Three times no one answered. There times I left voicemails. Three times no one ever responded. I used the house phone and followed the call instructions on the info sheet we’d been provided. Finally, at check out, having had no coffee, I mentioned all this in person to the desk clerk. Her response was that she had been there all morning. Suggesting, I guess, that I had hallucinated all those calls? That was when she explained about the two-cup limit, that thereafter we were expected to buy additional beans from them. I asked how a person was supposed to know this, given that it was mentioned nowhere and that my three calls went unanswered? In response to my pointing out there’d been no cups on the 5th floor for two days, she said she thought there might still be cups at some other Top Secret coffee station somewhere else in the building. I’m not sure why Roost has decided to treat coffee as a State Secret. To be clear, this is not a hotel with a Starbucks in the lobby. There’s no restaurant on the premises. There’s no coffee shop next door. The whole reason we choose Roost was because we were going to be in Cleveland for two days when there was a -4 windchill, and since we were going to be stuck inside more than usual, it would be nice to have extra space. What we didn’t count on was that the hotel’s idea of hospitality is that you should get out of bed in the morning, put on your parka, and wander off in blinding winds in search of something that would cost them what, a couple dollars? Even this I might have forgiven if the check-out clerk had been even remotely apologetic about any of this. All I got from her was arguments. She snapped at me because I wasn’t interested in hearing—now that it was time to check out—about the second Top Secret coffee location in some distant part of the building that MIGHT (IF it still had cups—she wasn’t sure) have solved my coffee problem. If only someone had ever told me it existed.

We stay at the Roost whenever we visit downtown Cleveland. The location is perfect and the accommodations are comfortable, spacious and clean. I recommend this property!

All around great stay location was great staff was great

The room it self wasn’t very clean under the beds had old water worries and lots of dust. The kitchen items were dirts as well like the pit and bowl etc.
