South Shire

Breakfast not served during our stay. Not a huge issue but a surprise. Restaurant also closed and might have tried it.

Rooms and public spaces a little chilly. My sleeping area in the Peach Room was warm enough but bathroom stayed cold. Generally the house felt a little abandoned with lights off, and not seeing staff.

Location was great, walkable to local restaurants, loved the historic features of the house, friendly staff

It needs a lick of paint, the carrriage house had a lingering smell of past smokers, sofa bed uncomfortable.

My husband and I stayed at South Shire Inn on our way from Michigan to Maine. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and affordable. The Inn was short-staffed during our stay and there wasn't someone available to answer questions or help at all times. Bennington is a delightful city to visit and holds much history.

The room was fabulous, comfortable and spacious (Peach room), and the common areas are really lovely. Wonderful attention to aesthetic detail and very comfortable beds.

Breakfast was cancelled (due to illness) and the service during dinner on the on-site restaurant was impossibly slow.

It’s a beautiful building and well situated.

Despite being described as a bed and breakfast ( with a note giving a price for breakfast,),breakfast was not available. The whole building was very dark. Staff were only on duty some of the time. Our double room had one large and one small pillow; when asked for an extra one we were told to phone the owner; in the end we borrowed one from another of our party. The room was spacious but only had one chair. On one night we had to leave our room after we had retired for bed in order to turn off the music which was played throughout the ground floor as it was left on till very late. There was a used hairbrush in one of the drawers in the bathroom, and on the day that the chambermaid visited our room, the bed was remade ( despite our having left it made up) but none of the bins were emptied
