Waterfront location.

Maybe useful to have a light over (blue) front door but not a major issue.

"We had a wonderful stay at Brook Cottage, but there were irritations"

7.0

The cottage is in a fantastic location with coastal walks, a great cafe, pub, and restaurant all in easy walking distance from the house. The views from the windows of the living space are exactly as shown in the pictures. The tables and benches outside are a nice touch and meant guest could eat/drink just outside the front door. The building has been renovated to a high spec and the bed, furnishings etc were nice to look at and comfortable to use. One reviewer commented on the smallness of the double bed. To us it seemed be a standard double in size and we both slept very well.

Sadly the owner or the company managing the property on their behalf have cut corners on things that have a direct impact on the comfort of visitors and this brought down my rating on the cottage. Our main irritation was the bath towels. They were thin and minuscule in size (according to their labels 70cmx110cm) and were annoying to use. Neither my husband or I are overweight (in fact my husband is very slim), yet the towels did not meet in the middle when we tried to wrap the towel around ourselves after a shower. Quite frankly it was pants and caused irritation to us both each time we used them. I should point out that we regularly rent holiday cottages/rental houses in the UK and overseas and I can't remember the last time I encountered a bath towel that was not of a size most of us would use at home. Another irritation was running out of loo paper during our four night stay. When we arrived the one on the holder was already half used so I think a fresh one should have been left in the bathroom. No soap by the kitchen sink was another annoyance. In our opinion the owner should rethink only providing four mugs and wine glasses. If four adults should be staying in the house and/or you wanted to invite someone over for a drink you'd either be forever washing up or drinking in relays. To be fair there were also cups and saucers but that's not quite the same.
