Masseria Santo Scalone

An ancient Apulian residence, enchanting location and lovingly maintained. Our stay was wonderful. We were greeted with kindness and smiles. I highly recommend dining here because the food is delicious. The head waiter Alfonso makes you feel at home and exudes so much passion for his work. We'll be back!

Gorgeous Masseria. What a dream of a place. Kids were so happy running through the grounds. The place is a dream!

The property looks pretty (as on the pictures) and is situated around many beautiful villages.

Our stay was very disappointing and I would not recommend booking a room there. There are many other masserias, that are cheaper and much more welcoming… 1. Complete lack of hospitality : When arriving, the woman at the reception showed as to our room and told as to read the pamplet. No ‘welcome to our property’, no help with the bags, not a single explanation about the masseria, etc. When leaving, it was the same : nobody asked us how the stay was, they just hand you the bill and show you outside. 2. Tasteless but extremely expensive food : Our dinner in the restaurant was not enjoyable. It was by far the worst AND the most expensive food we have eaten during our Puglia trip. And asking 16€ for an Aperol Spritz is a joke. You can get a better one for 5-8€ anywhere in Puglia… 3. Rooms in quite a bad shape : The door handle to the bathroom was broken, the button to flush the toilet was broken, the windows do not close properly and let all the rain in and the umbrella they gave us for the rain was also broken. In addition, the air conditioning/heating system is centrally steered, so the guests cannot choose a temperature or an intensity level. The only options are to turn it on or off… 4. No activities : The website advertises multiple activities like olive oil tastings, wine tastings, cooking classes, horse back riding, etc. When asking at the reception, the woman told us she was new and did not know anything about activities. Later she called us to tell us they could offer us a one-hour cooking class at a specific time on a specific day. Given the quality of the food, we declined. Luckily we found some amazing tastings and experiences at nearby masserias. 5. Other points : Even though the pamplet proudly advertises that ‘the bar is open all days and every day’, the bar was closed during our entire stay. Also our room was not cleaned a single time.
