Muskoka Lake Cottages

Rented this cabin thinking it was a fun alternative to staying in a conventional hotel/motel for the weekend. Thought for a little bit more money we could rent a full cabin with a kitchen instead of just a hotel room for 6. Upon arriving I was greeted by the owner's kids instead of an official reception area. This level of presentation felt very unprofessional and disorganized. When entering the cabin I quickly realized how much smaller it was than in the pictures and to be honest it felt closer to a shack than an actual cabin. The kitchen was really just a hot plate connected to an extension cord with way too many plugs, there was no tv, no wifi password and the bedrooms barely fit the beds at all. The "third bed" was literally the smallest futon I have seen in my life. Thank god I brought an inflatable mattress. The worst part was almost no amenities. No towels, no bath soap and a few of my friends ended up using the hand soap that was provided. The cabin itself was sparsely furnished and ill-fitting panels in the walls. The is central heating or cooling in the building itself and the only redemption was that we didn't freeze to death at night.

Really nice option for a group of friends if you’re looking for a place to stay

Sent a text an hour before we were due to check in about what to bring that they didn’t supply. Luckily I had brought most things due to reading reviews. I did not expect to have to bring toilet paper. They did supply extra rolls just in case which was nice. This text should be sent at least the day before. Said we could use propane bbq but it didn’t work. Room Devore does not match the pretty pictures on the website. However it was quiet and peaceful. We would go back now that we know what to expect. Also check in was confusing as we wandered around in the pouring rain wondering where to go.

Very disappointed and misled. Under the general section of the property amenities, it is listed that there are 8 rooms. We were under the impression that it was a single cottage with 8 rooms, but it's actually 8 individual cabins and your party is assigned a cabin when you arrive. The bedding was dirty and had stains. When we lifted one of the pillows we found a dirty paper towel underneath, there were just a few drops of soap in the bathroom, and there was an old bagel in the toaster. When you enter there is a very distinctive smell that doesn't go away, especially in the couch. We shortened our trip by more than half because of how disappointed we were with the cleanliness. Would not recommend. The host was actually very friendly and offered to have someone clean our room again but we had already made up our mind to leave early and we would have expected that the room would have been cleaned before our arrival. Our recommendation would be to separate the expedia listing by cabin rather than advertising the place as a cottage. We thought it was all one cottage because all the pictures of the different cabins are in the same slideshow under the listing.

We stayed just for one night but it was very good and quiet.
