Belford Hostel

Cool location inside a remodelled church. Large kitchen and common room. Comfortable beds.

When trying to check in, we got dismissed by the Australian receptionist, who instead showed a colleague the computer system. Wasn't until after 15 minutes and a couple of snarky comments from his side that he called another person (very nice and apologising) to check us in. All in all check-in took 50 minutes. The shared dorms are more boxes made from makeshift plywood walls with a small ceiling window than rooms, causing them to get incredibly hot. Everything from the corridor and adjacent rooms, even normal conversations, can be heard loudly.

The building is pretty noisy

Pas d’horaire pour rentrer, douche propre, pas trop loin du centre, chambre propre, cuisine bien équipée

Pas de prise dans la salle de bain, chambre et locaux un peu froid

I liked the coziness of the hostel.

The thin walls, so you can hear everything but wasn’t a big problem

Very helpful staff, super clean bathrooms, good kitchen, Friendly vibe. A good range of ages when I was there. Not far from Princess Street and most importantly as I was cycling across Scotland They found somewhere indoors where I could store my bike. There's also a really lovely riverside walk and the 2 Large contemporary Art Galleries on the doorstep.

The building

After we checked in we were given our key to the dorm, as we walked in there was a male lay on his bunk bare chested which I thought surely there must be rules in place regarding this!! I felt completely uncomfortable in the situation and went to speak to the receptionist to be told this is what happens in mixed dorms, I felt it wasn’t a safe place for females if these are situations that are deemed normal, I choose to leave the hostel within 5-10 minutes after arriving and myself and my daughter found alternative accommodation
