"Definitely not as idyllic as the listing suggests!"

4.0

The property is right on a very busy main road, the main bedroom is at the front so traffic noise is an issue. The curtains aren’t blackout curtains so street lights are an issue and one being faulty and strobing intermittently didn’t help. The exterior of the front could definitely do with some tlc as well. The rear of the property is right on a river as the picture shows so idyllic with the sound of the nearby weir. There has been some effort to modernise & improve the interior and it has been finished well. The boiler in the main bedroom starting up every 15 or 20 minutes quite noisily does nothing to aid a good nights sleep, it was set to water/radiator and off but the one radiator that seems to be on the circuit in the upstairs bathroom didn’t appear to work, there was plenty of hot water though. The other radiators were electrically controlled on a thermostat which seemed to work well. Instructions for the hot water system might have helped?? The stairs are very steep to the point of being dangerous in my opinion and this is definitely not a property for children or anyone not 100% steady on their feet. It is an old property but rain water leaking in on the stairs above the upstairs balcony was certainly a surprise. The kitchen is kitted out quite well and looks almost new, so no complaints there. The main bedroom not being on the same floor as the bathroom was an issue because of the challenging stairs.

"Lovely river - shame about accomodation"

6.0

View over river from balcony was lovely. The cottage however, has a lot of items that need finishing/ repairing. The door in the bathroom does not close as it is off it’s hinges - partly because it was fitted with no frame. The bedroom door also doesn’t close due to poor fitting. Some plus don’t work - we only found out when we emailed about the Wi-Fi not working. We were told the Wi-Fi was to be plugged into an extension which turned out not to be plugged in on The opposite side of the room. Rooms very basic. No property guide ( so had to solve own issue of no hot water). A lot of unfinished decoration/ tiling. Bottom of doors roughly dawn off. Carpet tacks could be felt through carpet going upstairs. No mention of accessibility issues going up two winding steep staircases - not an issue for us but easily could have been. However, we spent most of our time on the balcony and thoroughly enjoyed watching the wildlife.
