Moxy Richmond Downtown

Location is good.

The hotel feels more like a hostel and does not have standard hotel services for the price. They did not have extra pillows or blankets for the room (even though they said they were in a storage closet), they did not provide housekeeping, and staff were unavailable to answer calls to the front desk asking for basic items (more towels, pillows, etc.). The room was also miniscule, which is confusing for a city like Richmond.

It is a shame that booking .com can recommend this place. The registering is actually in the kitchen! The bedroom was so small I couldn’t go around the bed if my suitcase was open. The air conditioner was non existant only the heat was working. The shower door would constantly open while taking a shower and flooding the bathroom. Pornographic picture on the wall….. I could go on…. I will no longer use Booking.com

Great location.

Windowless room. Neither Booking nor the hotel alerted us, during reservation process or in their respective email communications, that the room would be windowless. Grim and depressing room.

We came looking for a one night stay in order to catch a late evening show at the Altria. This hotel's location was nearby, so we chose it. Overall, our stay was average. The front reception staff were unhelpful and unfriendly. When asked about the valet parking, they said we had to go down the street a little to find the valet. The valet, however, is in the same building. What we had to do was park in front of the hotel and talk to the valet at the front door. The valet was friendly and very helpful. Our room was clean and had a nice atmosphere, but it had no vent fan, so it reeked of strong cleaning chemicals, and we had no way to air out the smell (the windows do not open). When looking for breakfast, the reception staff once again did not give any advice or help. The morning valet instead was the one who helped us find where to go! Jerome was very kind and helpful. He saw we needed help, and he did not hesitate to guide us in the right direction. Breakfast at the hotel is pricey ($15 for a bagel sandwich), so we opted to check out early and find a meal worth the price somewhere else. Jerome brought our car back promptly and wished us luck on our travels. The valets are the true gems of this hotel.

I generally enjoy the Moxy brand and its vibe, which is what makes it difficult to write a critical review. This hotel has a great location and the room is, of course, small but comfortable with everything you should require. The problem, in our experience, was the service. After checking in, we went to our room which . . . still had all the signs of its previous occupants and had not been cleaned/turned over. We reported it to the front desk and left for dinner with the assurance it will be handled, no problem. We returned nearly four hours later to the same situation. The front desk asked if we could wait for the cleaning staff to return to the hotel to clean the room, dithered for a while about whether it could put us in a different room (the hotel was fully booked) or if they'd be able to relocated us to a different Marriott hotel, and things were not looking great. By this point, we were tired, sweaty, and getting pretty annoyed. Thankfully, a more experience staff member stepped in to make things right; she found us a room in the Moxy immediately and we were given several drink vouchers to make up for the trouble. So, your experience here will hopefully avoid this outcome, and the hotel is otherwise quite good, but there are some obvious communication problems here that could affect you like they did us, which certainly colored our perception.

Booked 3 rooms here for my son's 16th birthday celebration. What an awesome time! Ashley (housekeeping manager) was very sweet and went out of her way to accommodate our party. Hannah was helpful, Mellow was very friendly. Jerome (valet) was fast , courteous and always smiling! Great job Moxy Richmond!
