This might as well be one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. In fact it is just the hotel I have always dreamt of owning. Lars and Matthias Michel togther with their lovely staff have done an amazing job tranforming a ruin into the perfect small alpine hotel that leaves nothing to be desired. We have felt so at home there during our ski weekend that we felt rather sad when we had to leave. The attention to detail shown here is very rare. I have not found it at any of the five star hotels I‘ve stayed at in recent years and certainly not at a hotel rated four stars. Consdering how much energy it takes to do what they are doing my only worry is: are they going to manage to keep this way for the years to come?

Our family stayed here as our Grindelwald base and we really enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and went out of the way to get us an early packed breakfast before the restaurant opened so that we could get on one of the first gondolas up to Jungfraujoch (I highly recommend going early to Jungfraujoch because you can really enjoy it without the crowds). The buses aren’t running that early so you have to walk 15 minutes to Grindelwald Station then catch a train to Grindelwald Terminal. The hotel is also a short bus ride to Grindelwald Canyon and a short walk to the Pfinstegg gondola and the Grindelwald First gondola. The rooms were very comfortable and had everything we needed with a nice balcony to enjoy the mountain views and fresh air. We also really enjoyed the hot tub and sauna during our stay—great way to relax after long days of touring and hiking. Highly recommend!

Staff were attentive, room was spacious with an excellent view. Breakfast was excellent and the onsen was also excellent.

Slightly far from town centre

Great location, warm and friendly atmosphere, large well designed room and well maintained with good coffee and tea making facilities too. My room had a beautiful view and a balcony. Highly recommend dinner at the restaurant - a work of art both flavor/texture combos and presentation. All Staff were very helpful and kind.

Everything was wonderful: the welcome, the room (with an upgrade and lovely attention) and the spa, both with magnificent views, breakfast and recommendations for the day, as well as the purchase of cable car tickets on site. We even got face masks, which were ideal after a day in the snow.
