"Steep stairs and narrow beds ruined the stay!"

6.0

Big lounge/dining room good for lots of people and well heated for an old house

Access to bedrooms is by very steep spiral stairs that people struggled with, there are no pictures or description to warn people! The access to the attic bedroom is particularly lethal. Some of the rooms have quite slopping floors, combined with very narrow twin beds in one bedroom meant it was quite uncomfortable to sleep. The narrow twin beds are only really big enough for children. We called and messaged the host several times and got no response, there was no communication prior to arrival either. It was an old building so appreciate its harder to clean but it was looking a bit tired and could do with tidying up, broken toilet seat, peeling paint, cobwebs etc. The biggest problem was the stairs and comfort of the beds as it meant no one slept well!

Great location, spot on coffee shop close by

We stayed at this 4-bed property in December and unfortunately our experience did not match expectations. On arrival, there were several maintenance and cleanliness issues which detracted from the stay. Lights were hanging loose from the wall, which raised safety concerns. The kitchen was generally not clean, and we found two baking trays that were heavily rusted and unusable. The kitchen sink had a tap which was not attached to the worktop. The washing machine was not working, despite being told someone would come to show us how to use it — this never happened during our stay. We were also informed that the multi-fuel fires were not to be used, however they were full of ash when we arrived, which gave a poor first impression and suggested they had not been properly prepared or checked beforehand. During our stay we were verbally promised a 50% refund due to these issues, but despite multiple follow-ups, we have received no refund from the owner We would have preferred to resolve this privately, but the lack of communication has been disappointing. Hopefully future guests will have a better experience, and the property issues and customer service are improved.

"Not satisfied"

The house was in a lovely location , pub was amazing big space plenty of room beds were clean and comfortable

Very unhappy as the main thing we went for didn’t work( the hot tub) because it had no cover for it so there for the heat wouldn’t stay , we weren’t aloud to use the wood burned fires as they were broken also which was gutting , the heating kept going off as the money hadn’t been put on it , we tried to contact the number that was left a number of times and had no reply so we went without heating through the night for one night. There wasn’t enough wood done for us to use , there were a few small problems for example the tap was hanging off, the curtain poles where broken , there wasn’t hardly any cooking utensils to use the kitchen facilities , we couldn’t use the washing machine as there was no instructions on how to use it . There wasn’t a list of instructions in the house on anything to use such as the dishwasher the cooker etc we were very disappointed

This cottage was spacious and very cosy, we had a lovely relaxing time.

As there were 8 of us, we were all waiting to use the bathrooms, would have been nice if we had our own ensuite.

The host, Peter, could not have been more helpful - he was fantastic. It was a great space for the family and the dining table was excellent for the family to gather around

"Simply amazing."

9.0

The location was amazing. We wished we could have stayed longer to make better use of the house and places nearby. We will definetly be looking to come back in the future. The hot tub got nice and big, enough to fit 6 of us in, and was good fun. The rooms were very spacious throughout, and had an awesome medieval vibe, with the addition of modern amenities and appliances. The dinning room felt like we were eating in a medieval banqueting hall. We were very sad to have only been there for 2 nights.

Not necessarily something we didn't like, just more of an afterthought. The only thing we felt was missing would have been a small care package. Local tea/coffee/biscuits/small bottle of milk. Not something that is needed, just that added touch.

"Lovely stay and amazing staff in the Olde Bull Inn"

The patio doors definitely need replacing as when it rained, it was like a waterfall coming through the top of the door!!! We had to ask for a load of towels to put on the floor

"A beautiful cottage in a delightful location ideal for families looking to explore the region."

9.0

The location and the property itself were the highlights of our short break in Wales. The cottage has real character and was clean, well maintained and clean. We loved exploring Caerleon and the Roman amphitheatre, museum and barracks were fascinating to walk around. We visited the pub for both meals and drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. The Indian restaurant (Red Fort) is also highly recommended but make sure you are hungry before you go! Cardiff is about 40 minutes drive away and worth a trip. We spent a couple of days shopping, visiting the castle and exploring Cardiff Bay. The little coffee shop down the road and the interesting sculptures, history and friendly people make Caerleon on of our new favourite places ever!

The only negative was the fact that we didn’t receive any welcome pack or email from the hosts. This would have been helpful as access to the property is via the staff at Ye Old Bull Inn, and the car park is shared with the Roman Baths, so access is convenient and accessible.

"Great stay and perfect for our needs."

8.0

Large house, great showers, comfortable beds, nice garden. Perfect location. Staff friendly and helpful. Spacious lounge with comfy sofas. Due to my flight being cancelled we were very delayed and missed our reservation for dinner at Ye Olde Bull Inn which is where you collect the keys from. Spoke to Pete on the phone and he was very kind and helpful and booked us in for a meal at the Indian restaurant next door instead. Thanks Pete!

Very old property so the floors in the bedrooms are very sloped, made me feel a bit seasick! The lighting in the bathroom is very poor. No mirrors in the bedrooms for dressing/doing hair etc. Couldn't find a hairdryer! Very hot in the bedrooms. Some fans would be a good idea. No tea towel! The property could do with a bit of a spring clean in my opinion. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean but the kitchen cupboards and drawers etc need a clean and tidy up. This didn't affect our short stay.
