"Frustrating "Process" After Rental on Hotels.com"

The location is good and the house was fine. In terms of value for price paid, it was just okay. The biggest issue I had was this process the house management company forced us to use after having paid in full (nearly $18,000) where I had to sign a 30+ page agreement, then another process step required me to use online facial recognition software that -did not work- to match my ID documents with a selfie. The night before we were to check in I still did not have the specific check-in details and had to get on a 3-way call with Hotels.com support (which was excellent) and AvantStay (their property management company with all the additional non-standard Hotels.com requirements). This communication took several hours of my vacation and they ultimately manually just approved me because the facial recognition software wasn't working. They seem to be set up to do bookings on other sites, not on Hotels.com. They told me it was to prevent them from being "defrauded," which was concerning as I was being told I might not have access to the property that I'd paid so much money for nearly 2 months prior. With a group of friends flying in and no confirmation, this was very stressful and honestly needless, as this software they force you to use didn't work and they manually "approved" me anyway. In my opinion, when I pay for something on Hotels.com my payment is my "approval."
