Michie Hostel

We stayed for 4 nights at this hostel. The location was good in that it was close to a lot of what we wanted to see downtown.

While the first 3 nights were acceptable, on our last night I was jolted awake in the middle of the night by a mouse running across my face while I was in bed. I let out a scream and jumped out of bed. I could not find where the mouse went. My family and I tried to go back to sleep, but for the rest of the night you could hear mice moving around the room and going through our luggage and shopping bags. We got very little sleep. In the morning, we found mouse droppings. I alerted the staff to this and asked that they kindly refund the last night, as it was not acceptable or reasonable for us at all to have rodents in bed with us. They have not responded to the request or refunded the amount for the last night.

Lovely hostel, and within walking distance of downtown! Free parking was also appreciated

My stay was very comfortable, quiet, and warm during the winter storm. The house was clean, sheets clean, kitchen clean, and roommates very polite. I would recommend to everyone to consider this place for a night, few days, or weeks...whatever is your pleasure. Definitely worth every penny!

The hostel is a firehouse conversion and is architecturally interesting with nice artistic details. It's called Firehouse 13...

Unsanitary and extremely cramped 4-person dorm (urine-smelling bedding, mouse droppings, broken light) in an unsafe area. A minor space issue with a bunkmate escalated into a hostile, prison-like situation, and management responded in an authoritarian, unprofessional way, including making false claims. Despite having stayed at Michie House previously without issue, I was expelled and refunded after paying for a week and told not to return.

Didn't eat hostel breakfast, went outside for burger king.

There could be a park to hang around closeby, especially since it's in a rough neighborhood. That's something that needs to be talked about with the city gov't. It's unfortunately car centric the area and need more people out to enjoy or what the city is.
