La Canasta

It was very welcoming and the staff were so nice. A friend recommended this hostel and we were so happy with our stay! The best part were the mangoes and the hammocks in the hostel!

I know that prices are higher on the coast but ultimately I feel like this place is too expensive for what it is (been all over Latin America). The room is small and right next to an open sewage, so the bathroom always smelled awful. It has a sliding door that doesn’t properly close, so you never have real privacy in the bathroom. No plug to charge toothbrush etc in the bathroom and in general few places to charge devices in the room. Only 1 nightstand to put your things. You can hear neighbors all the time so bring earplugs. One evening there was no running water (so no shower after surfing) which can happen in Central America, but a place that charges these kind of prices should have backups in place.

We enjoyed our stay here! The location is fantastic, just a 1-2 minute walk to the beach, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. The room was great, with well-functioning air conditioning, and the shared bathroom worked perfectly. Having two restaurants on-site was also a nice bonus. Overall, it was a good experience, and we’d recommend it for the location and comfort.

The only downside was the check-in experience. The staff seemed uninterested, and we weren’t shown around, so we had to figure out things like the location of the bathroom and shower on our own. It wasn’t a big issue, but it didn’t make for the most welcoming start.
