Very nice accomodation. 3km fron main road.

It is a very special place to stay, in an old castle and its surrounding village. As we understood there are around 30 permanent inhabitants. The apartment was well equipped and nice. Perfect tranquility. Spectacular view. Even wild boars showed up (in safe distance but begging for food, probably they got accustomed). Very nice restaurant attached to the castle. There is also a nice wine tasting bar, closing fairly early so we could not catch due to our late lasting trips.

Bit far from the civilisation if one wants to go out (10 mins drive in forest roads the closest small town). For us was not a problem as we wanted to relax. I guess you book such a place only in this case. Small misunderstanding with the staff but compensated by waiting for us for the checkin more than planned.

The village is beautifully located - 15min drive into nowhere. Delicious restaurant in the village.

- extremely old and poorly maintained. We could not close our bedroom door, nor the bathroom door properly. - it needs a real deep clean! - according to local inhabitants it the village the water is polluted and not safe for human or animal consumption. The first 3 days we have two water to our dog and he has vomited several times. We transferred to bottled water and things stabilised. This should be made very clear to anybody staying at the village! - beds were okay but mattresses very old. - no nespresso machine in the room or boiler.

Beautiful Location near Volterra. 20-30min. from the beach with plenty of supermarkets on the way. Friendly and helpful hosts. Open parking nearby. Very nice restaurant. Excellent wine shop with wines from the castle`s wine cellar. Good facilities: kitchen, living room, bathroom. Overall good value for money. If you are looking for that "castle" feeling, you are at the right place here.

Unfortunately we arrived in the end of July, in the middle of a heat wave in southern Europe. Our assumption that the hill and forrest location would bring cool air in the night was totally wrong. The stone walls and tiled roof of the old structure had already gotten too warm (30 degr. celsius in the room). Overnight natural ventilation could not make any difference. There were only fans available and no air conditioning. Our two small children both struggled with the heat and after 3 very long nights we had to cancel the rest of our stay. The helpful hosts were very understanding and we were reimbursed for the rest of the stay. For small children or people who struggle with high room temperatures I recommend to book outside of July and August.
