Eco Hotel Puerto Urbano

This is a great place to stay if you’d like to visit Costa Rica and really experience the city in a way tourists don’t usually get to. Warren was a fantastic host and will help you find whatever you are looking for. He was even available to take us on tours out of the city, all you have to do is negotiate a price (he was as good as any tour guide and less pricey!) I loved the stay there and was very thankful to find this hidden gem.

If you are looking for a way to experience the real Costa Rica instead of a resort you won't find anything better than Eco Hotel Puerto Urbana. Warren was available for tours throughout the city and valley, we just had to negotiate the cost for his time. He showed us San Jose the way tourists never get to see. He showed us markets we never would have found and took us to eat in restaurants we never would have known about otherwise. He was an excellent tour guide and a pleasure to spend time with. The price point was amazing but you are staying in a home with some history and Warren can tell you stories about all kinds of things related to San Jose. We didn't want a sterile, exploitative resort experience...we wanted to learn about the real Costa Rica and Warren's hostel (more like a Bed and Breakfast) was a hidden treasure we were lucky to find. Wir hatten einen schönen letzten Tag bei Warren. Er hat uns sehr herzlich empfangen und sich super um uns gekümmert. Zusätzlich hat er uns Tipps gegeben und sogar zum Flughafen gefahren. Ein Herz für Warren. <3

I had booked for two nights but stayed only one, and the only reason I stayed that one night was because it was late when I arrived. My room had a door to it but one wall did not meet the ceiling; there was a gap about 6 inches in width and 12 inches long at the top! When I pointed this out to the owner he said it was for "air flow". The hotel was right next to a busy street so that gap allowed for all the noise of buses, motorcycles, cars, people, etc. to flow into my room, along with the air. In addition, the sheets had a hole or two in them and everything was old and worn. There was no A/C, only a fan that I had to ask for. It was a horrible place, in my opinion! Oh, and I had to pay for the second night even though I didn't stay.

The hotel owner was incredibly friendly, as well as the other folks living at the hotel. However, it lacked warm water and a shower curtain, and was a bit noisy at times. Still a great place to stay a few days!

The room was too small and smelled like 10 gallons of bleach. Like they were hiding something. We only stayed there 2 hours which was 2 hours too long. He made me pay $85.00 to get out of there when the nightly rate on Expedia was $36.00 per night. I would give a worse review if I could. I was ripped off and do NOT want anyone else to be sucked in.

Warren and the folks at the hotel were extremely warm and receptive and helped with all of our needs.

This is my first Hostal and would recommend this Hostal. I enjoyed how the owner made you feel at home. When we arrived we were hungry and the owner Warren took us to a delicious local spot. He made sure we were comfortable.
