The Drexel House Kenya

Stayed at Drexel House in between going on Safari with my family. It is a boutique hotel in a suburb of Karen, about 40 mins from Nairobi airport. The staff were delightful and attentive, even setting up breakfast for us in the beautiful gardens one morning which was lovely. We stayed in one of the two cottages which had its own, small, private garden, a dining area, three bedrooms, one of which was en-suite, and main bathroom. The bathrooms were a little basic, but perfectly functional with plenty of hot water. The main property had several lounge areas and a small dining room. All meals were freshly prepared, to order each day and could be ordered in advance. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very much at home in the lovely surroundings.

I had an exceptional stay at The Drexel House and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Karen, Nairobi. The property is immaculate, comfortable, and exceptionally well‑run. From arrival, it feels serene, welcoming, and clearly cared for. Dan, the owner, creates a warm and personal atmosphere, and the staff are consistently friendly, attentive, and service‑minded. The naturally beautiful garden — complete with charming guinea fowl — is a true highlight and offers a peaceful space to relax. The rooms are spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, creating a blend of comfort, privacy, and understated luxury. Overall, The Drexel House delivers calm, attentive hospitality in a stunning setting, making it easy to see why so many guests consider it one of Nairobi’s best stays.

Sent some notes to the owner separately which would enhance the stay even further.

The breakfast menu was quite good, though I felt there should have been pork bacon and sausage options however this was a small bone of contention. Staff were very helpful, travel to and from the hotel was effortless and the hotel itself was very boutique like, rooms were spacious and shower was very decent. Meal choices were very good and plentiful.

Not much not to like.

L'hotel est très sympa avec des chambres spacieuses et agréables. Les espaces communs correspondent à une époque mais très bien entretenus. Le jardin est très agréable et l'on apprécie le calme qui règne;

La signalétique pour arriver à l'hotel. Le personnel n'est pas chaleureux et cela se ressent en tant que client. La salle à manger n'en est pas une quand on voit la qualité de décoration des autres pièces communes. C'est un espace froid et impersonnel. Les diners ne sont pas géniaux mais corrects.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Gardens well landscaped and beautiful. Lovely swimming pool. House design and furniture showing great attention to detail. Lovely lounges with fireplace. Decent menu. Quiet, peaceful neighbourhood. Overall lovely peaceful stay, would highly recommend.
