Charming Studio near Piazza Castello by Wonderful Italy

The location was perfect — we were literally in the heart of the city. There were several public transportation stops nearby, so we hardly ever needed a taxi and could get everywhere easily like a local. The apartment is set at the back of a quiet courtyard, which was a real advantage since Via Garibaldi can get quite loud. The decoration was lovely and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious. We would have preferred to have some windows, though; the only opening was the front door, so we had to keep it open in the mornings to get some fresh air.

We asked for an early check-in and were told that it wasn’t available, but that we could leave our luggage at the office and then pick up the keys at the apartment at 14:00. What wasn’t mentioned is that the office and the apartment are about 15 minutes apart by taxi. Because of that, we had to take a taxi twice with all our bags. That said, we ended up discovering Carmen Bistro right across from the office — and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had in the city! The double bed was on a mezzanine floor, and the ceiling was extremely low. My husband is 185 cm tall and couldn’t even stand up straight, so he had to sleep downstairs on the sofa with our son. I’m 167 cm and even I was touching the ceiling — which meant I ended up enjoying the double bed all by myself!

The apartment is situated near to most of the places we wanted to see in Turin and the shops and restaurants were literally 1 minutes walk away. We liked the secure courtyard and the fact that it was very quiet despite having a very busy shopping street on the doorstep. The apartment was well equipped and very clean. Valentina who met us on arrival was friendly and helpful. All communication after booking was done through WhatsApp. The sofa bed downstairs was also made up with bed linen and there were lots of clean towels. Shower was great. The apartment did get very warm but we located the instructions (in Italian and English) and altered the maximum temperature on the thermostat down to 17C which was warm enough for us.

We had read the reviews before booking the apartment and there were a few remarks about the arch leading into the mezzanine bedroom but we chose to ignore this and find out for ourselves. I am 5ft 3inches and I had to bend my head down to get through the archway which leads into the mezzanine bedroom. The ceiling is domed but in the main standing area at both sides of the bed, my head touched the ceiling, this wasn't a problem for me but if you are very tall you might want to bear this in mind.
