"Unnecessarily hard to get to, way overpriced"

6.0

Although a unique experience, the difficulty to get to the location, the awful condition of the roads to get there and the 20 min steep incline walk to carry overnight essentials and food for the evening (BBQ available) to the top of hill where the tent is, took the shine off the whole adventure. The place was hard to find, mostly because the GPS coordinates given were wrong. Signage and instructions were deplorable. The road had massive bumps and dips, truly requiring a 4x4, and was too narrow in many places, resulting in our rental car getting scratched badly on either sides of the car. After 1 hour of driving on a tortuous road and then having to carry our overnight stuff and BBQ meal up a very steep hill for 20 min (which we had to do it 2x to get all food ), we found the BBQ, tools and crockery VERY basic, so we abandoned the idea of cooking and resorted to our protein bars for dinner. At 416 NZ dollars per night, this place was hugely overpriced. Realising as well that a much better alternative access road exists that leads straight to the tent at the top and was clearly used by owners to build this glamping place in the first place and to upkeep/clean in between the stays. This really annoyed us and made us question why we had to go thru all these obstacles to reach the tent. Maybe this alternative road is private, or needs approval from the farmer? Anyway, it could have made the experience so much more enjoyable if access to this road had been given to arty alll necessary stuff for the dinner and night.

"Overpriced glamping experience"

6.0

The dome and bed was comfortable. Very private, quiet and secluded.

This was definitely an experience. Please note that the below comments are what we felt in relation to the price we paid, and to help future guests make an informed decision. We were expecting better glamping facilities for nzd 338/night. Unfortunately, the kitchen/bbq areas are not well-maintained. Dishes and utensils were dirty and oily. The cooking supplies such as cooking oil looked unsanitary. We have to clear our own rubbish offsite, ie bringing everything with us and to find a bin somewhere (no instructions from owner). For this price we also would have expected that there would be a cleaner who would do that, or at least clear instructions on where we can dispose this. We’re not from NZ so this can be a bit confusing for us. We tied the rubbish bags and left it outside in the kitchen area. When we woke up the next 2 mornings, we realized that the rubbish have been rummaged through and strewn all over the ground by an animal (paw prints were seen on the bin). We’re not sure if this has happened before to others or if anyone had feedback on this, but just wanted to mention this for future guests as it is quite a hassle to be picking everything up. We were unaware that there are no PowerPoints prior to our trip which was a bummer, as we would have probably chose to only stay 1 night instead of 2 if that was the case. To be fair, the host did provide powerbanks. We just wanted to also let future guests know of this. Or this can also be more clearly mentioned in the listing. Location was a bit far out from the main town of wanaka and there’s at least 10 min drive on a really bumpy road with multiple potholes. It was a 5 min climb up a hill to the campsite. Not an issue at all for us, and this was expected from the listing. However, The view from the campsite itself was quite covered, can’t really see the lake. Overall, it just was not worth the money we have paid for the 2 nights stay (676 nzd).

"Not suitable for small family"

4.0

The tent itself is nice.

Access to the property is through super bumpy road in middle of nowhere. Once you reach carpark there is steep uphill walk to the tent which is unsafe, no proper uphill path, I was almost out of breath trying to get to the top of hill. The view to the lake is obstructed by large pine trees, so not as good as it looks in pictures. Once you are up there , there is not much to explore. There are no power points( have been to others where it is usually available), no other person in sight. Would not recommend for families. Perhaps would suit for young adventurers.

"absolutely loved this place it truly was the highlight of our NZ travels (possibly the most expensive too 😉)"

9.0

loved the seclusion and the views - wow wow wow. you truly feel a part of nature. Everything had been considered, including some extra heavy coats and scarves for the cool nights. this wouldn’t be a place for someone who isn’t fully mobile as you must take anything you want in the tent with you up a uphill bumpy track. we had lots of fun as we stumbled to the camp site 😄

minor problem - but the charging bank ran out after our first night and we had no way to recharge stuff. we sent a request for a new one whilst we had charge, but then couldn’t receive the reply as it came too late! no harm done just a minor worry and may be important to other guests.
