The staff is very friendly and communication in English worked well. They made vegetarian dinner and breakfast for us, which was excellent. The onsen is wonderful.

"Nature, tranquility, good food and relaxing onsen in Ohara"

10.0

This is a fantastic place to visit! Ohara is a countryside area, very quiet and tranquil. The Minshuku offers a genuin experience with traditional rooms, delicious food and onsen. The staff is ever so nice and although not fluent in English they have no problems with communication through apps or voice translation devices. My birthday was acknowledged with congratulations and a birthday gift! Ohara is an agricultural area and the food served at the Minshuku is locally produced. I had the best miso soup ever at the Minshuku, and then I had already spent two weeks in Japan eating miso soup through out the country, from Nagasaki to Kyoto. I could not stop eating, it was my best Japanese meal ever. The nature is beautiful with lots of shrines and walking trails in the surroundings. A few but nice cafés and shops were also open at this low season time of year. It was very easy to reach Ohara with local bus number 17 from Kyoto station. The cost is around 600 yen and takes an hour. And don´t forget to visit the beautiful gardens of Sanzen-in shrine when you come to Ohara!

The only thing I can think of is that the ladies onsen could do with a good and thorough freshening up. It´s not dirty, but a bit rusty and there are some beauty spots. Since the water is mineral rich, the atmosphere is probably a bit oxidative causing corrosion. It´s not dirt, it´s a chemical reaction. But it looks a bit sad. A good scrub with acetic acid would fix that. During my two night´s stay, I visited the onsen four times and I enjoyed every minute of it. With eyes closed you don´t see the spots :)

Отличные купальни, великолепный персонал и шикарная еда. Стоит отдельно выделить природу. Она прекрасна!
