I had stayed at this place several years earlier for a few nights while I was in the area, and I remembered it being a decent place to stay. Since I was planning to be in the area again a couple of different times in the span of a few days, I called over a month ahead of time to check on rates and availability. The rates were OK, so I decided to make the reservation for the three nights (one on a Monday, and then again the following Friday and Saturday). The place was under different management than when I had been there in the past, but I was reminded of something I had forgotten about this place from the past when I asked if I needed a confirmation number. I was told that I didn't need one, but that they wrote my name down in their book. I was informed at that time that they were pretty booked on the Friday I needed to stay, but that they would find something for me.
When I arrived on the Monday of my stay, I made mention of the Friday and Saturday reservations, too. The lady who checked me in looked in a little book and seemed puzzled about whether or not I had a reservation for Friday and Saturday. I asked if Friday was still pretty well booked, and she said it was, but that they'd get me in. When I got to my room on that Monday evening, I was impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room--especially for an economy motel. The room included a mini refrigerator, a microwave, and in addition to a desk chair, a small couch. There were a couple of issues with the room, but I didn't notice either of them until late, and since I could live with them, I figured I'd just tell them when I checked out in the morning, so that maintenance could take care of those things. But when I went to check out at about 7:30am, the lobby door was locked, and there was a sign on the door saying to ring the bell once, and someone would come to the window. I rang the bell, and nobody came to the window. Since my credit card had been run through the night before (and since I had the receipt), I simply dropped my key in the locked little wooden box outside the window that looked as though it was designed for that exact thing.
By Thursday, my plans for the next couple of days had changed slightly, and I called to let them know that I would not need to stay there Friday night (the night they were pretty booked up anyway), but only on Saturday. The person with whom I spoke on the phone said that they could not find my name in their book for Friday, but it was a moot point now--as long as they had my reservation for Saturday, which they assured me they did. While I was on the phone with them, they asked me what time I'd be arriving, and I told them it all depended on what time the things I was doing got done for the day. They asked me to please call before 8pm on Saturday if it was going to be later than that (as it ended up, I was there by about 6pm). When I arrived on Saturday, everything was fine. I had a different room, with the same amenities, except there was a soft chair instead of a small couch in this room. The couple of small issues I'd had with the previous room were not issues with this one.
When I checked out on Sunday morning about 8:15, again the lobby door was locked and the sign saying to ring the bell was up, but this time when I rang the bell, someone came to the window.
So, bottom line is that this place is OK for an economy motel. It's a bit quirky as far as not having computer reservations and not having the lobby staffed all the time, and these things make me a bit nervous about reliability if I need to stay in that area again. But if I can overcome this nervousness, I think it might be worth the try.
