AfriCamps at Doolhof Wine Estate

Fabulous tented camp in Wellington winelands. Doolhof is a great place - we will be back!

Doolhof is a beautiful wine estate with very good wines.

We stayed two nights at Doolhof Africa Camps after my husband finished the Munga MTB race. I requested an earlier check-in due to the circumstances and was told there is a strict no early check-in policy, despite the camp not being fully booked. A more guest-friendly response would have been appreciated. The manager, George, came across as arrogant and dismissive when explaining house rules and when we reported that the air conditioner was not working. He insisted the problem was “because it’s a tent” and later told us we don’t know anything about air conditioners when we suggested refilling the gas, despite the unit clearly not cooling. The heat inside the tent was uncomfortable, and only the wind made the stay bearable that night once we opened the sides, after George warned us not to be scared of the wind - it will not blow the tent away. and we must just not phone him about that during the night. The kitchen equipment was poorly stocked: mismatched glasses, no salad bowl, broken braai grid, empty dishwashing liquid, and tea/coffee not refilled. The small bar fridge was inadequate for a family staying two nights. There was also a ridiculously heavy stainless-steel cover at the fireplace that had to be lifted and moved every evening to prevent fire risk, which was impractical. Overall, a disappointing experience at what should be a welcoming finish-line venue. We will not return and will not recommend Doolhof Africa Camps to Munga MTB riders.

We liked the tranquil atmosphere and the hot tub. The internet reception was excellent.

The pool area could be sproused up a little more. The facility could do with a few more family activities.

A bit short on toilet paper and had a neighboring tent set fire one night, causing major consternation about the issue for us and other neighbours.
