Bush Lodge – Amakhala Game Reserve

The conservation of animals is their love and focus. The lodge was clean and beautiful. The service was outstanding. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. I can’t fault anything.

Everything !!! It’s was fabulous and the staff are wonderful !!!

The room was beautiful and luxurious and we appreciated the little touches like lighting the wood burning stove when it was cold and running a bath to be waiting when we got back from the game drives. The staff were (with one exception) so lovely and helpful and friendly. The game drives were amazing with just 6 people in each vehicle, and our ranger was fantastic. The location is gorgeous and very special.

The food was of mixed quality. When it was good it was very good, but the poor meals were awful and inedible. And we didn't appreciate being told by one of the more inexperienced staff members that our palates just weren't used to the South African fish - the hake was completely tough and disgusting. And if beetroot is on the menu, avoid it at all costs - we will never be able to face it again!

Had a fantastic stay and great safari trips with Roan

This was our first time on safari and we really enjoyed our stay - Amakhala has a great story to tell. Only established in the 1990’s by a group of farmers who diversified into managing their land as a reserve. The land is now rich in wildlife and we had a great stay seeing big game animals with our fantastic ranger Jonny whose passion for his job was inspiring. The Lodge was relaxing and comfortable and the food excellent. I would recommend staying for 3 days to ensure, as we did over our 6 drives, that you have the opportunity to see the full range of wildlife and get the best experience.

From the moment we arrived the staff could not do enough to help end entertain. The communal areas were wonderful and and our room was even better. The safari drives with our guide Roan were superb and he never stopped pointing out the huge variety of wildlife and telling us as much as he could about them and the history of the park. The food was excellent and varied and allowed us to try the local specialities too.

It was a bit cold setting out at 6am for the safari drives but it was unseasonably cold while we were there.

Happy friendly comfortable lodge. Welcoming staff. Good food. Excellent rangers and game viewing.

The included wine is poor. There aren’t many vegetables in the meals. It is pricey for what you get.
