Kyo Obataya

We never write reviews about the places we stay in, but we thought that Yoko deserved one as she has been a great host. From the first moment we went through the door she welcomed us with all her warmth and love. She recommended places to go to, explained curiosities about Japan and the area where the guest house is placed, and help us with everything we needed. The room was extremely clean, and well equipped. We chose to stay in the traditional Japanese room, sleeping on the futons, which were very comfortable. With all this, we would therefore recommend to stay here if you have the chance to, since for us, it has been a lovely experience and Yoko will make sure your stay is great as well.

Everything, specially the staff. Everyone was so nice and gracious to us. It was a really authentic experience of the daily routine in a japanese house. It is possible to have a typical japanese bath and to sleep in the traditional way on the floor. We are very thankfull to have chosen this unique place to stay.

spacious, well kept accommodation with tons of amenities

I had a lovely stay at Kyo Obataya. The host Yoko, made the stay extremely pleasant. You also have the option to rent a bike, which is the best way to discover Kyoto. I highly recommend!

I was welcomed very warmly and there's really nothing that I could complain about or that felt off/ was missing. The host was very forthcoming and tried supporting me in every possible way, even when my knee started hurting from walking too much. The interior is what I imagined a "traditional Japanese home" to look like, and it being my first time in Japan, it was very interesting to have a look around. I stayed in the room with "western" beds, but there's another one where you can sleep on futons as well. Surprisingly, even compared to other hotels I stayed at, the bathroom was very modern. Even though I normally prefer showers, I took the opportunity to take a bath, which was very enjoyable — adjusting the temperature is also very simple. There's no need to know Japanese, because the host tries her best in English too, but if you do, I believe, the conversations are even more fun! Next time I visit the city of Kyoto, I will definitely stay at 京おばたや again! 大変お世話になりました m(_ _)m

Everything was great ! The place is very calm and beautiful. Yoko-San is very nice, kind, attentive, eager to exchange and full of great anecdotes and recommandations about Kyoto ! Really a great experience thanks to her ! Thank you so much !!
