The room and the onsen was great. Hotel is getting a bit dated and worn in places. Also some of their practices are a bit out of sync. But on the whole, this was a wonderful and comfortable part of my vacation

Most of my complaints are fairly picky and personal. The hotel only issues a single key, not the best when you and spouse go to onsen and want to coordinate returning to room (which only one of you has key). Adds a bit of stress that reduces overall pleasure of experience (well slightly anyway). The coffee in lobby, while appreciated and fairly good (american is a bit better in my opinion). However it is only available later in afternnoon to early evening, where most people would prefer this as a morning or early afternoon slot. While not their problem, we do not normally like eating at hotel under a package (our preference). In this area, it is a problem. The only (real) alternative is a local ramen (noodle) place, with the other two places being rather poor. their noodles are good and we liked them, but they were getting a bit repetitive after a few days. May be better in the summer. We stayed three days. I would suggest two is enough as the gorge is about it for attractions, other than the onsen. Local shops are very limited (the farmers market in Kamikawa is good to stop in if you are in area (on highway).
