Jeg elskede at de inkorporerede lokale madvarer - særligt Yugawara appelsiner. Værelset var skønt og meget afslappende. Jeg kunne godt lide den klassisk japanske indretning.

Der var en sprække i vores brusehoved på badeværelset. Det gjorde dog ikke så meget, da der jo var en vidunderligt bad nedenunder.

Our stay at this resort was truly unforgettable. The location is excellent — very secluded and peaceful, with only the gentle sound of the river running behind the property, adding a natural sense of tranquility to the atmosphere. The service was exceptional. Noda Jun was absolutely wonderful and took such great care of us throughout our stay. He embodied true Japanese hospitality with impeccable manners and a calm, gracious presence, which added beautifully to our cultural experience. A special thank you to Noda Jun from a very grateful mother and daughter from Canada 😊 The room was spacious and very comfortable, featuring a private open-air onsen under the sky — an incredible and relaxing experience. Unlimited local beer, water, juice/yogurt drinks and small sponge cakes were included, which was a lovely touch. Both breakfast and dinner were on a completely different level from anything we had ever experienced before. Every dish was presented like a piece of art. There was an abundance of food — almost impossible to finish everything. The cuisine was very unique and authentically Japanese, making it a fascinating culinary experience. While some dishes were quite different from what we are used to and not all suited our taste, we truly appreciated the opportunity to try something so distinctive. This is a must-try experience at least once in a lifetime.

Choosing a room with a private onsen does make the stay a bit too expensive, but for us, it was worth it.

Exceptional from top to bottom. The staff were incredible, rooms were beautiful, meals were lovely. Looking forward to returning for a longer trip.

Our trip was too short!

My friend and I stayed at Hakuunsou for a single evening and really enjoyed our stay here! A few points to sum up: - As other reviewers point out, the accommodation is surrounded by steep hills and getting here by foot would be difficult. Hail a taxi at the station - the drive takes 10 mins and costs +-1600 JPY. - Front of house will guide you through check-in, help you book a free shuttle back to the station, explain further amenities etc. A special thank you to Yutaro-san who was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay, we really appreciated his kindness! - We stayed in a family room on the top floor: very spacious with a chair/desk area overlooking the creek. Our room didn't have its own open-air bath, but this wasn't an issue as the public onsen were empty both times we went. You can also book a third private onsen for 1 hour, which is off to the side of the property and features a jacuzzi feature and hammock(!). - Nearby park is a wonderful place for a morning stroll before the 11 AM check-out deadline! Final tip: we opted for a room excluding meals since we weren't sure when we'd be arriving/leaving, but it gets dark fairly early in the evening and nearby dining options are limited. Part of the ryokan experience is dining on-site, so definitely opt for the breakfast/dinner if you're able :)
