"Good place to stay for hiking"

6.0

Stayed one night here prior to starting the hike to Jebel Toubkal. It was mid January, definitely low season, so that might explain my impressions. The reception was rarely staffed, although everyone we did manage to find was pleasant and efficient. The room we had was quite compact and a little cold, although it was January. The shower took a long time to get hot but once heated it was fine. We asked for an early breakfast and arrived down to find an empty reception. A walk around the Riad found nobody, so we had to leave hungry. In fairness we did return and get a discount, but that's not the point. Overall a serviceable place to stay for hiking but would look elsewhere for comfort.

"Extremly bad"

2.0

A very dark and very cold place. Smaal rooms an very small toilet/shower. Hot water arrived after 10-15 minutes where the water was running. Very small and dark room. We had to ask for towels, toiletpaper etc. Noboddy in the reception (no light in the reception) - you have to walk around the riad to find staff. The staff was 3 persons less than 18 years - they had no idea about service. Asked for breakfast at 8.30. At 8.30 there was nothing in the restaurant and we had to wake up one to get breakfast. The food was very poor and of very bad quality. Only one good thing to say - great wiew from the roof. Will never get back there. Keep away from this Riad.

"Great scenery close at hand"

6.0

We stayed for four nights as members of a 12-strong party travelling with Explore. This is their regular base for day treks into the stunning countryside around. All the bookings etc were managed by Explore and I'm unsure how our tariff related to what might have been available at greater expense. The riad is unprepossessing from the outside but has a certain charm once you are through the doors. Our room on the ground floor (n. 6) was clean but rather cramped and without any storage space. As there were two beds (a double and a single) we were able to put our bags on the latter. The ensuite bathroom (with shower) was small but adequate; the water was hot most of the time, but no plug in the hand basin - fortunately, we'd come prepared. The windows look on to a corridor around the adjacent internal courtyard. The roof terraces offer fine views all around and are good places to relax on warm days. Breakfast was OK (though the same four days running) and the evening meal ranged between average and reasonably good. Wi-Fi coverage in reception.

"Views from the terraces are spectacular"

8.0

The entrance to the riad isn't easy to find but once inside it is different world. The rooms are arranged around internal courtyards. The rooms don't have AC but despite the heat of the summer, they were cool. There are several terraces which offer varying views over the surrounding mountains and the village. The staff are friendly and helpful but don't speak much French or English. The food is good but service isn't of the highest standard - our room wasn't made up one day and we had to ask for towels a few times. There's free WiFi in reception but it is a bit temperamental.

"Numbingly cold!"

2.0

Stayed for one night In Riad Imlil and very lucky not to suffer hypothermia. It was absolutely freezing and the single wood burning stoves - one each in reception and in the restaurant - were totally inadequate. The one in the restaurant wasn't even lit for breakfast. We ate dinner with our outdoor coats zipped to our chins. The food was ok. Apart from the cold the place is very dark and dank and the massive locks on the bedroom doors make it feel a bit like a prison. I accept that in summer everything could be very different - just don't stay there in winter.

"Cold .... So cold....!"

6.0

New Year's Eve was not how I expected it would turn out to be, but one night in Riad Imlil was 'different'. The place was bitterly cold - the heating barely warmed the immediate layer of air around the one stove in reception and in the restaurant. Outdoor clothing had to be worn by many inside the building. Food - large quantities but only 'OK'.

"Quirky and colourful, with stunning views."

8.0

I had no expectations of Imlil, and no idea what a riad was before I stayed here! I like a place with a bi pt of character, and loved the courtyards and lottle stone corridors. The views from the roof terraces were just beautiful, and I could happily have sat for hours and looked at the mountains. Ok, I'll be honest- I did do that quite a lot! Despite me being vegetarian and it being Ramadan, the food was lovely. I'm not bothered about the lack of alcohol; climbing the foothills of the Atlas with a hangover in the height of summer wouldn't be smart! The bedroom was delightfully monastic; I don't like a frou- frou room, and the dark stone walls gave it atmosphere. It would have been helpful to have somewhere to hang clothes though. Pesky rucksacks! I was a bit poorly one day, and the staff were lovely, rounding up supplies for lunch for me whilst my fellow travellers went walking. In fact, the staff (particularly the girl at reception) were very nice. Brlliant walking countryside, friendly locals and a charming and quirky riad lead to me sleeping like a log and having a cracking time. Ps as always- travel with toilet roll!

"Very Accommodating"

8.0

We stayed at Riad Imlil for one night either side of a climb of Mt Toubkal. We were well catered for and well bartered with. The Riad provided all meals, mules and guides and were extremely hospitable with meals and mules. Taking our food orders well before mealtime so as to be able to deliver all together. A great place to prepare for and recover from an the ascent.

"A good base for trekking in High Atlas"

8.0

Note: I work for adventure travel company Explore and visited the Imlil on the 9th September as part of my training. I will however give my honest opinion regarding the accommodation. The Riad in Imlil, whilst not perfect, did offer a good base and a great location for trekking in the High Atlas mountains. The building was well decorated in a very Moroccan style and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed good food, the rooms were tidied and cleaned daily and overall I very much enjoyed my experience there. I will admit that our group played a large part in the experience, however I would recommend the accommodation to a friend. Good points: - The roof garden - Friendly staff - Location - Good food Bad points: - Cold rooms at night (we visited in September) - We had to request the central heating be turned on when returning from our trek Remember: - There is no alcohol available in Imlil, so we made sure to purchase a couple of bottles of wine when leaving Marrakech. - Make sure you go to the roof garden at night and enjoy the spectacular view of the stars. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip

"If you value your health - do NOT stay here"

2.0

We stayed for 4 nights as part of an explore! Holiday. There was a group of 12 of us, 8 of which were ill. We were not given any fresh towels, rooms were cold and damp, rooms were not cleaned, no toilet paper, RATS were in the kitchen, attracted by the filthy conditions. It was under staffed. The place itself has potential but I would recommend not going until things change drastically.
