Southern Inn Minden

First, I just want to say a lady at Holiday Inn Express recommended this place because there was a room available and the others in the immediate area were full; and I appreciate the effort. She should never do this again and next time I will travel to Arcadia if everyone else is full. Now about the room at Southern Inn, which we paid $75 per night and stayed 3 nights. There was no tissue in the room to blow your nose, there was no iron or ironing board in the room. When asked if they might have a rollaway bed for my grandson the man said no. So there was 2 grown women in one small (queen) side bed and my grandson in the other. The smoke detector was hanging down from the ceiling. We were tired when we checked in late on Tuesday night so the next morning there was a knock on our door and it was housekeeping saying they noticed a strange car and was checking to see if someone was in the room. We asked for a set of towels so my grandson could shower, the lady gave them to my daughter and said the man in the office counts the towels. Big deal, who would steal towels so rough and small I wouldn't use them to dry my truck. After leaving the premises to go get breakfast, we found the beds left just like we left them and no clean towels. We walked around looking for the pool and found the most disgusting swimming pool with brown water, leaves, and wouldn't put my dog in there much less a person. And the topper is there are roaches of all different sizes when you turn on the light in the bathroom so needless to say we did not use the drawers or put our luggage on the floor. and did I mention there were no clothes hangers in the room, and on Thursday night, our last night I noticed a streak of light and upon really looking the door did not completely fit the doorjamb so how safe could we be? And that told me that earlier on Wednesday when the man from the office and an Oriental gentleman came to check to see if the locks to the door work. I have never stayed in a place like this before. If you value comfort, security, and overall your sanity, do not stay here. Oh yes, forgot to mention sign says there is hbo, that is also a lie. And housekeeping never made the beds, just took towels we had used and didn't replace them.

I gave the previous reviews the benefit of the doubt because of how late we checked in. I could’ve reserved this place on the internet for $57 and they charged me $75. I asked if the AC was good. They said “oh yes”! They have the AC set to where it won’t go below 76 and at 76 it doesn’t blow good at all so the room was warmer than preferred. The color and room was pretty BUT pieces of hair scattered throughout. Stains and hair in shower, mold rings, etc. No shampoo, no conditioner, no air dryer, nothing.

I was born and raised in Minden and came back for a funeral. This hotel is in great shape! It is nearly 50 years old and is a small piece of history in N. Louisiana. The new owner, Kenny, takes such good care of the place. At first, I was skeptical of the $52 price tag for a Tuesday. But, now I see it is because the new owners have made alot of renovations and they are encouraging folks to come and stay here. This place used to be a disaster in decades past. Now, even the landscaping is well maintained and it is definitely completely safe now too! They have ripped out the nasty carpet and put luxury plank flooring in. All new trendy, comfy furniture from IKEA. Corian bathrooms and sink areas with new toilets, showers, etc. Rooms have microwave and fridge, but no coffee maker or hair dryer. However, there is a coffee maker up front, along with cereal and milk in the side fridge in the lobby. We stayed in room 127. It was right next to ice machine, vending machine, swimming pool and laundry machine. It was very quiet during our stay. In 85% humidity Louisiana, keeping the humidity out of the room while using the AC units is a challenge! But, the room AC we had did a great job of keeping us comfortable all night long. While BW, Holiday Inn and one other sit all right here on the same 4 corners, they're like $30-60 more a night and very little extra to show for it. I have stayed in that BW before during a family reunion and...yuck. I will absolutely be staying here again! Highly recommend.

We stayed last 3 nights in this hotel It was wonderful experience. It was very silent places. It's very clean Good staff and friendly Nice room And cheapest hotel in this area. I think family based good place I have no words about this hotel. Every thing. Good....nice..... fine ....

The Southern Inn is awful in its own right given the abysmal state of the room: mildew stench, stained towels/bedding, dirty carpet, etc. But the creepy owners made it so much worse. To say they were unfriendly is an understatement. The husband delayed giving us towels for the second day of our stay for 9 hours and treated us suspiciously for even asking for them. He delivered them to our room at 8:00pm at night and scanned our room, asking us if we smoked. (We had not.) Then he admonished us to not smoke and skulked away. His behavior left us feeling uneasy for the rest of our stay. TLDR: If you can get lodging anywhere else in Minden, go there.

Attempted to stay here with family during a trip and lasted about 10 minutes in the room. I should have turned the car around when I saw the outside of this building as the inside was worse. Advertised as kid/pet friendly with pool and place to eat - wrong! Nothing for kids to do. Pets are allowed but ours were going crazy in the room from smells.(we travel with them all the time and yes there are new smells but this place was different - I carry a black light and the results were scary). Within 10 minutes of entering the room and starting to unpack I noticed 6 roaches (several different kinds/sizes on the food dish and water bowl. Another family member in another room had a dead roach inside fridge. I checked ours and when I closed the door more ran out from underneath it. I jumped back and my heel hit the bed and another roach ran out. We packed up (hopefully not taking any bugs with us) and immediately "checked out" and went down the road to another motel. I took a quick photo of the tv cable receiver that is dead center in the middle of the room just to show how much cleaning housekeeping does here.

The room was very nice, clean and large. It had a refrigerator and a microwave but no coffee maker. No complementary toiletries and worst of all, no coffee maker or plastic cups or tissues. You would think for $70 a night that they could at least throw that stuff in. And if you wanted to fill a small ice chest (12 quart), they want you to pay five dollars for a bucket of ice out of the ice machine.

The price for this place is relative-- the three or four motels in this town are running a bit of a monopoly. Beware the husband/wife owners of Southern Inn/Exacta. I had business in town and hauled in 8 boxes of paperwork/printer/laptop/etc. Paid per day, hostility by ownership and threat to call police when I requested noon checkout. I am a professional and have stayed here cheaply over the past couple years but this level of discourtesy is not worth it. Chill out, owners. Who cares about a couple of roaches, and the staff at night was cool with picking up an actual douche in the parking spot next to me. I do have a problem with this husband and wife as hospitality business owners, Requested a noon checkout,

I was headed East on I-20. Getting late, Monroe, LA. was a "bridge too far," so I opted for Minden, LA. First place I stopped didn't have any non-smoking rooms and next was pushing a $100. I just needed a clean place to crash, with a nice bed, bath and at reasonable price. Southern Inn fit the bill nicely. The rooms are off the road and it is the old Motor Inn style so you can park your bike right outside your door. No lugging your bags down a hall and upstairs. Price less than $60. Can't beat that with a stick! Ride safe...
