Umkumbe Bush Lodge - Luxury Tented Camp

The luxury tents are perfect. The best part of the experience though was our guide, Charné Her knowledge, respect and enthusiasm for the animals is beyond compare. And our night tracker, Captivity, was also very skilled. He even spotted a chameleon in a bush in the dark !

I liked the whole experience of staying here, but most of all the staff made it special. The tent was clean and comfortable to stay in, a special mention must go to the bed which was exceptionally comfortable. To my mind the food was excellent as well.

I do not think there was anything I didn't like about this camp.

The most incredible place to stay. Our knowledgeable guide Leo found so many amazing animals, this was truly a once in a lifetime experience. The staff were exceptional, our tent was excellent, the food was incredible.

The accommodation was exceptional. The room was spacious and comfortable. The treehouse guest area and boma with the fireplace was fantastic. The views of the waterhole from the treehouse guest area was amazing to watch all the wild life come and go. The game drive were great with fantastic guides who can change a jeep wheel in 15 minutes. They made sure that each safari was an enjoyable experience with as many of the animals they could track. It was great that the radio system helps to share the encounters with other animals so each jeep can have an opportunity to experience a sighting.

We literally cannot say better things about Umkumbe - wow, wow, wow. We had a superior tent and it was stunning. So clean and luxurious despite being in the bush and everything we needed was provided. It was a little chilly to shower outside but we just did this after the morning game drive, in the sun and all good. The food is delicious and plentiful and the people that serve it are so friendly and kind. We felt very spoilt and full after 4 days here!! The best thing about Umkumbe is the staff / guides though. Everyone was so friendly and helpful at the lodge, we really felt taken care of. If you are able to, request Leo to be your guide. He was amazing, so so knowledgable and really dedicated to us seeing the Big 5 (which we did within 2 game drives) He really wanted us to have the best experience and did everything in his power to do so. The sightings we saw of leopards where a real highlight and memories we will treasure forever!

Absolutely nothing, it is 10/10. Two bits of advice though - it is totally possible to self drive to the lodge but we would recommend getting a 4x4 as it’s bumpy / potholes everywhere (to be expected in the bush!) It is worth paying extra for a superior tent. So much roomier, private and generally more luxurious.

Very comfortable considering you're sleeping in a huge tent in the bush. Same for the facilities. Personnel was amazing, super friendly, very attentative. knowledgeable guides, super nice, going to the extreme to spot, and follow the animals. Overal a superb experience!
