Iwasu-so

Everything was nice. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Location fantastic with shuttlebus available. The private onsen after the walk was amazing. Table tennis, pool excellent food and sake!

Finding a ryokan that allows tattoos is near impossible, so it was wonderful to find one that does!

The property is set in a stunning, secluded part of Nakatsugawa, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. The hot baths were excellent, and there were plenty of enjoyable activities available, including a pool table, table tennis, and board games. The staff were exceptional, and I especially appreciated the convenient shuttle services they provided to Magome and Tsumago, as well as to nearby train stations such as Nakatsugawa and Ena making it easy for travelers heading to Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka.

A great place to stay. Excellent staff who were incredibly helpful. Very efficient mini bus that fitted with our schedules. Delicious food, comfortable futons, private onsen was a treat. Kachi who greeted us was completely charming and so helpful and always smiling. Thank you very much.

Decor was a bit dated.

The staff were so kind and friendly. They helped us organize luggage transportation to our next hotel so we could hike the Nakasendo trail. They also arranged a free 40 minute shuttle bus to Megumo - the cute village where we started our hike. We also loved the private karaoke room that we rented.

The fried chicken for dinner was not really chicken karage but it came with miso soup, rice and salad.

We stayed here from 9th December till 12th December 2025. We travelled via train to the specific train station where they offer us a shuttle bus to go to their hotel. Their shuttle bus service is amazing, the man driving was very kind as well. We have used the onsen every single day. The breakfast was amazing too. We only stayed for 3 nights and it was relaxing. The dinner food we recommend is the SET MENU (especially the fried chicken). The high light of our stay here at Iwasu-so was the people working there. Especially the Japanese lady and also the younger lady (from Nepal) they were AMAZING. They made us feel welcome straight away, helped us with the suitcases and every day they made sure everything was ready for us. I can not say it enough, but they really made our stay complete and gave us such a great time. The older Japanese man, who was working on the day we hired the bikes (11th December), he was very helpful as well and made sure we got the bikes and everything ready for the day. Their English language was totally fine, it was enough to help us. We highly recommend to stay at this hotel if you want a relaxing holiday. We also walked the Magome Trail which was one of the best thing we did in Japan. We would love to come back to this hotel in the future.

We thought we try the Rice Pot one evening, unfortunately that was a regret. You only get a small pot with rice mixed with a bit of mushroom. We thought it was a proper meal, but it wasn't + it was more expensive than the Set menu.

3度目で、夏は初めて行きました。夏も料理が美味しく天然鮎は最高でした。ホテルの側に流れる川には蛍も飛んでいて幻想的な景色で良かったです。

多少虫がいますが、自然の中の宿なので、仕方ないかな…

Very attentional staff who helped plan our bike rides and our hike. They also arrange a shuttle for us for the end of our hike. They were very kind.
