"Decent for the night"

6.0

Quiet neighborhood. The owners run the place and are friendly. The rooms are in need of updating. The bathroom has old tiling and the bathtub needs a better curtain - when showering the curtain blows into the shower an hits you. Mir it hits you, it had hit everyone else who has showered before you. I was trying to get clean but didn't feel it when I was getting hit by this curtain! Perhaps the curved shower rod would help? Also, the shades in the room do not block out light too well. Mi was awoken at about 5:30 by the sunlight and couldn't fall back asleep because it was too light. There is a sign in the office saying no pets but the the room next door had a dog that was barking at night and early in the AM. There were rooms available as it wasn't sold out the night I was there so why put someone next door to a dog? Although I do have to say I did not mention hearing the dog until checking out - I had seen the no pets sign so I figured I was hearing an animal outside until I said something at check-out. Wi-fi does not work in the rooms but it works just fine outside.

"Clean but need to like retro"

4.0

Clean but be prepared for original 60s style everything. Dark paneling on the walls, old lighting and a/c, decor, curtains, etc. Also, the fountain isn't actually on their property and is across the street. Wouldn't stay there again but at least the bed was clean and comfortable. Only 2 really flat pillows though.

"Very dated, but very clean! Quiet stay."

8.0

It's not often that a hotel with terribly out of date décor and an older TV is given a "Very Good" rating. But, this is an exception. The Fountain View Motel is in many ways from a bygone era. Take red carpeting, green curtains, faux wood paneling and what do you get? A pleasant, quiet stay at a reasonable price. The Fountain View Motel doesn't "wow" you with a huge first impression. It is older and looks as though it has been housing passers-by since Eisenhower was in office. However, the rooms were spacious, clean and had a microwave and fridge. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom appeared to be the most updated. It was especially clean. Everything was in working order. Perhaps it's greatest asset is its relative distance to Cooperstown. It is a winding, breathtaking drive that takes roughly 15 minutes. This is not a fancy place to stay. What you see is what you get, no frills in a dated setting. What you also receive is an economic stay that is pet-friendly, felt safe and provides a nice sleep. One last note: even though our interaction with the owners was limited, they were quite hospitable.

"Vintage, yes. Clean, yes! Great service, yes!"

10.0

So, the furnishings are "vintage" and the TV not quite the latest model. So what! If you are looking for a CLEAN, INEXPENSIVE FAMILY-OWNED MOTEL, then Fountain View is a great choice in the middle of Baseball Hall of Fame tourist season. And, in off season, it is the best recommendation in the area as far as right on U.S. Route 20 in a safe location (State Police essentially right down the street) with clean guest rooms and bathroom. When you stay in a small town motel you understand that you are not paying for the Marriott. My husband and I were pleased with our one night stay as we traveled through the area.

"Rude!"

2.0

Just dealing with the man on duty when I called for a room made me not even think about staying here. It was cheaper than other places in town but kindness goes a long ways. Just think if you are inconveniencing them over the phone just imagine how your stay will be. I highly recommend you stay elsewhere.

"What a dump!"

2.0

Room was old and musty smelling! No heat. Hot water was verrry slow and then didn't last but 2 mins. The guy running the place was very unfriendly. Worst motel experience ever! Would never stay here again. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay.

"Inexpensive and Great Customer Service!!"

10.0

This is an ideal place to stay if you're going to visit Cooperstown. It has a nice size room, fridge, and microwave. I also appreciated the $.60 sodas provided in the fridge as needed. I rated the full five stars because I inadvertently left my treasured white noise machine behind and Ed kindly returned it to me in just a few days.

"Accommodating"

8.0

We have had many satisfying visits to this motel over the years-clean rooms, comfy beds, great value. Sitting on the porch in the evening and watching the storm move through, or watching the day break in the morning just adds to our relaxation. The proprietor is always so accommodating to us: "May we come early just to drop off our stuff and carpool to the opera?"..."Sure". But he actually had our rooms ready for us at 11:30! Then we asked if we could leave one car until after the opera while we carpooled the next day and again, the answer was "sure". No Jacuzzi in the bathtubs, you might have to hunt for the few extra outlets, the lamps are from the 60's, but everything works fine. Glad to see the parking lot full.

"Classic Motel, Great Value for Money"

6.0

While planning a quick overnight road trip in the summer in the Cooperstown area, many boutique motels and chain hotels are extremely pricy during the tourist season. Fountain View Motel is just a short, 20-minute drive to downtown Cooperstown and the price was just right. The outside is cute, rooms are a bit outdated --but it's cozy and fun for a couple's spontaneous trip or a solo traveler passing through. If you're OK traveling without many amenities and can appreciate some antique charm, it's a perfectly good place for your money. Nice owners, scenic driving along the way.
